Ginger's getting old and it shows. Good on him for still playing because it looks like it's a struggle for him these days. It will happen to us all, if we're lucky.

Meh, I can't stand this guy now after reading his book. BUT I think to cut him some slack. He's not young and its good to see him still playing. I'm sure he'd rather be doing polo though. His drums sound kinda flat no?

And his hihat. Always found it odd. Seems he places it way off to his left and quite high up. That seems very unconventional for somebody from the jazz beginnings (and he would say he has only ever been a JAZZ drummer).

There wasn't anything wrong with that performance, though, right? I get he's getting along, but he's still doin' it. I only hope I'll get to be playing when I get there, too.

And his drums sounded fine. Pretty good recording if you ask me.

You're right Bo. It's not called for to compare an old person's playing with what they did in their heyday, which is what I was doing. He's still out there playing good music and it's good to see him getting back to African style too.

What's wrong with it? It's a tune, to a crowd at a small venue... sort of NOLA sounding.

The comments on the YT page are typical keyboard commando yammering.

Watching Baker always reminds me of his own philosophy - Some play faster, some play with greater technique but, no one plays like him.

It's true. He has always had his own voice behind the instrument.

Yeah, he does have a unique voice/sound on the drums, but after watching Beware of Mr. Baker I see an angry old man who will lash out on anyone. I wouldn't enjoy being in a band with that man.

I don't see what's wrong with his playing, to be honest.

His playing is fine. He just looks like he is being operated with strings.

Weekend at Bernie's anyone?

No worries. I do it too. Here's this clip of Louie Bellson in 2008. I mean, in his heyday (which wasn't that long ago) the man was always on fire. This '08 concert is nice and the music is good, but to see Louie like this, I still don't know what to think. Bless him that he went out swinging. This was his second to last concert, as after this, he fell and broke a hip, and later passed away:

Ha, yeah, I got a bit carried away there and lost context :) Better to keep playing than worry about what people might think.

My Dad quit tennis when he could no longer compete with the other veterans at the club. He could have still played a couple of soft sets each day with weak players but he quit instead because he found it embarrassing. When he quit playing his health went downhill fast.
