Default So Excited!! NEW PICS - sexy red pearl BLX

Okay so this was originally in my first kit thread...

http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=14141

So I'm sorry if I've pissed anyone off for being repetetive... BUT I was so excited after over a year of patiently waiting and searching 'tinterweb I finally managed to track down a 14" sequoia red BLX tom to fit in with my kit I JUST HAD TO MAKE SURE I SHARED MY EXCITEMENT WITH YOU ALL!! I nearly wet myself when it arrived, even finished work early so I had time to get down to the rehearsal room and set it up before anybody else arrived...

...and for those that noticed, yeah I have got my brass shell in the FFS snare instead of the red maple one.

Spec same as before except the 2 items mentioned above, oh yeah and the ride has changed to a Sabian HH heavy ride.

Feast your eyes, okay then, just have a peak

Pic 1 is a close up of my new 14" tom

As always...stunning kit mate! Loving the setup, looks like a blast to play! All you need now is about 10 more cymbals and you will be consumed by you're kit...muhahahaha!

cheers dude :-)

it's fun fun fun all the way, you want a go?

More? MORE!? okay then haha I'll get more

hardware is next priority need to find out prices on pearls shell mounted hardware for a snare project I have in mind, aswell as possibly replacing the full length lugs with masters or reference lugs

A pedal upgrade is high on the list, eliminators all round, gonna set me back about 400 for a double pedal and hi hat stand.

need a cash injection quick...

if you do not give me a gazillion billion dollars I will... etc... etc... Muhuhahahaha

nice kit.. that is cool you found a matching tom like that, and yea i think smaller lugs would look good on your kit.. full length lugs do look a bit odd

Hi, love your kit. Would you recommend evans ec2 for Pearl birch kits as i also have one and can't get the desired sound from them. Also why is your bass drum miked up, to boost the volume of it? Cheers.

Yes I would seriously recommend you at least try them, I struggled for years to get a decent sound out of my 12" tom, but after dropping the EC2s on it was there within 10 mins. different heads next time tho, in case I'm missing something even better, might try the G2 or even the G2 coated, need to change the reso's first.

The bass drum is miked up purely in case we decide to record a session, the mic I use for backing vocals picks up most of the rest of the kit.

I do rather adore that finish Jay, and the unpretentious mounting system is a wonderous thing to see in todays overly-resonance-mongering World. The sad thing is though, once you've got that new toy on your kit, you'll want more. I give you two days until you're going to want some roto toms on it. I can just see it now...

LOL I have already been looking at roto toms and electronics...

am I really that predictable or is it a common affliction?! hahaha

BTW the post you put in the original thread has a question relating to it...

Common affliction, made more obvious by the old school nature of the kit ;-)

Actually, no, my mate is from Canada. But he has basically exactly this kit with about 100 cymbals, as well as a full set of Paragons and a custom kit he never actually sets up. I think I know the Quo tribute band you're speaking of, I had a chance to see them last summer but didn't take up the offer (long story). I mean, there are only so many Quo tribute bands, right?

cool, well the guy in the quo trib is where the 14" tom came from, he was after a 16" floor tom to replace the 14" he didn't like

wouldn't it be nice to have that much gear you could just pick and choose from day to day what you wanted to play, lucky git

You know the sad part about it is... I used to have a rack, but I sold it because it just wasn't versatile enough for my situation at present. there's time when I drop down to a 4 piece and have to fit in to a small space... But yeah, I know where you're coming from dude.

I wouldn't say it was better looking man, they are both BLX kits, and to anybody who has ever owned one, they are all equally as beautifull as the next... period... but thanks anyway :-)

Those are really sweet looking drums, and I am sure they sound equally good.

Its just my humble opinion, but I think those long lugs look fantastic, especially on the BD, and I'm not sure a switch would make a huge difference in sound quality.

Please don't be offended, I'm not taking shots at your tastes, those are just really beautiful drums just the way they are, IMHO.

Thankyou very much :-) I realy like the full length lugs, but I also relly like the new reference series lugs, it would purely be a looks issue as shells made back then didn't need all these low mass devices and optimounts etc... sometimes you just need something a little different to look at

that's a nice set up, i like it when guys (and gals sry) put stuff to the left of their hi hat, must give you more creative options?

you don't see exports or in fact any drums in that red colour much do you, apart from ebay lol.

all in all a nice setup...

Thanks for the kind words fellas :-) it's a little more stripped down at the moment, only using a 5 piece at present for ease of set up and transportation, but got an open air gig soon so may set the whole thing up again ;-) also still looking out for more matching drums, got my eye on a 13" tom on ebay

Hey, you need an 18" tom. Here it is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/PEARL-ALL-BIRCH-...QQcmdZViewItem

Although he won't ship to your neck of the woods. Maybe you can negotiate.

Once again, great set of drums.

Ah! the dice LOL I got them from Birmingham drum warehouse in Sparkhill, well the girlfriend bought them for me as the covers band I play in are called "the dice" :-)

Honestly... That's one bloke I've never really followed as a drummer, although I used to use those red vic firth signature sticks of his, very nice :-) moved over to vater now though.

Man I'd love an 18" floor tom, got a 13" rack tom on my watch list at the moment, but an 18" would just set it off in such an awesome way, all that punch and attack from the birch on a shell that size hahaha :-D

I might get round to setting the whole thing up again sometime soon, what I play at the moment doesn't quite warrant such a large kit though LOL

Cheers dude :-)

I have an EMAD on the batter and an EQ3 on the reso at the moment. Got one of those Remo Muff'l things on the reso as well, it was just a little too boomy without it, huge sound, but just a little too big. Thinking of switching to an EMAD2 and removing the muff'l, still experimenting with the bass heads, what works for you?

oh yea, switch to the EMAD2 on the batter and keep the EQ3 on the reso, thats what i have right now....that should muffle it just right for you....haha......those heads are the stuff.....it took me forever to find the right heads for the sound that i was looking for.....but i finally found it.....but it also works with tuning properly....which im not good at....haha....hope that helps you out.

yeah man. that's cool, I like to keep it pretty low so it has more of a real thunderous low end thump, but not too low that it loses all it's attack, I did try using the plastic side of the beater instead of the felt side, but it was just a bit too much click.

Bro this kit is sick. When I was 11 or 12 I had a paper route, saved up all my money for what seemed like forever and I bought that same kit sorda, same color, birch, 10, 12, 13, 16, 22, but I got so excited when I found your kit I registered to this site just to tell ya I like it. I love the new 14" you just got. I have been thinking about trading up to the masters mmx I think is what they are just because I know I could get a 14. After seeing yours, I guess I should probably just go out and look for a BLX. Those Masters are nice, but I am in love with my kit, and would rather add another tom. Do you know any other place that has one or suggestions where I could start looking? Keep Rockin' looks like your having fun on that thing.

I got the 14" tom off of ebay, spent the best part of a year looking for one, looking for a 13" now, and possibly another bass drum so I can split it down in to 2 kits, will post a new thread with updated pics in a week or two

Hey there, way back when i was 14 (15 years ago). I bought a BLX kit sequia red from a kid in my school. He had purchased it from a police Auction as it was originally stolen I think. The Pearl badges are torn off (really messily I might add). So it took me a long time to figure out what exactly they were. I have tried to sell the kit 3 times now with no luck, and I'm fine with that now that I know what I have had this whole time. The kit I got (for $500.00 15 years ago) is, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 22. Plus sabian AA thin crash, med thin crash, 10 splash, 8 splash, 18 china, 21 ride, 14 hats, double camco pedal, throne & hardware. I tried to sell the drums only for 300, and had no takers. As I've switched to Yamaha for gigging. However, after reading this thread, I have a new apreciation for these old monsters & can't wait to get my Tama's out of my buddy's studio to allow the BLX's permanent residency. Do you guys know if you can get replacement badges? If not, I'm just going to sand 'em down to natural and keep them forever. Thanks for the advice, and for renewing my love for my first kit again!
