I personally like Addidas Sambas They are just plain comfortable and they feel very natural on your feet I think that they work so well because they are not bulky. Just essential. Thin sole thin shoe the best.

Yeah I woudln't mind an explination about the wax... That would work really well, except quite messy.

I play berefoot 99% of the time, but the only couople times I have played with runners (joggers/sneakers whatever YOU want to call them) I have played just as well, although the feel just isn't quite there.

I have got a pair of chuck taylors at home, might have to give it a go.

Chuck Taylor Low Tops are the absolute best for me and some older black leather Fluevogs if I want to dress up.

Anyone tried suede-soled dancing shoes as suggested by Neil Peart on his "Work In Progress" set?

Now I usually use whatever I have on except for boots. I've tried a pair similar to the Nike water sock things, but I really don't like them with or without socks.

I think worn out shoes are the best. They are super comfortable and the sole is very thin. Or maybe i just dont feel like buying new shoes so i tell myself that.
Anyway heres my shoes for drumming. But i have been considering buy the "dB Drum Shoes." Anyone have experience with them?

Oh yeah, these are Onitsuka tigers.

I usally go socks on (no slippage problem with textured DW 5000 pedal)

But if i feel the need to wear shoes there is only one real choice. Just like Jo Jo and Lang, i wear some good old

Those guys who like the barefoot feel but hate to walk around a club looking like a hillbilly and stepping in God-knows-what should try the Nike Free sneakers. They are training shoes designed to mimic the effects of running barefoot. They are my drumming shoe of choice now. They are so flexible that you can roll them up into a ball with one hand, super-light and breathable. I love 'em!

The DB drum shoes are good too but they're too narrow for my wide feet.

Anyone ever hear of the Adidas Samba shoes? Theyre supposed to be like walking barefoot, only cost 50 or so dollars, and they look pretty damn cool, too.

Chuck Taylors or Old School Vans, they seem pretty similar, but i tend to wear the chucks more often.

Surf Wax: Surfers put it on the deck of their surfboards for traction, you rub it on, it comes in bars (think soapbarish), and it's slightly sticky/grippy. http://www.stickybumps.com/ here's one manufactuer. I think a good deal of the interest in surfwax is that John from the MarsVolta uses it and drums barefooted.

Doc Martens....I actually even practice with these on every day. They aren't as bulky as they seem and on those casual gigs, they fit right in. The worst are the leather soled tuxedo shoes.

At home I usually go barefoot, but sometimes I start sweating and my feet kind of slip and I can't grip the pedal too good. But when I am at practice or lessons I use my Puma Romas, or some Chucks pretty much shoes that arent bulky

I always record (and usually gig) barefooted, but at home I quite often play in socks if I've got them on, and lately I've found my heel-toe to be working better in socks, so maybe I'll stick with it. I've also played a fair bit in the Asics Gel running shoes that I wear most of the time I'm not at work, super comfy and flexible. I don't feel I have quite as much control though with them on, and my left foot tends to snag the adjacent hihat / kick pedal if I'm not careful (because I play with them *really* close to each other).

Slip on vans. Good grip. Easy on for shoes. Easy off for feet.

I just play in heels at church when I play auxillary percussion. But when I play the kit I wear tennis shoes or Wallabes (sp) on dressy days. When I'm just at home I go barefooted or flip flops or slippers whatever.

socks are for me... they virtually dont add any weight to the foot, and it lets me slide on the pedal, so it helps in whatever technique needs sliding and it also aids in dynamics. not barefoot coz feet grip.

otherwise, my pink chucks are ok.
