Default Non-drummer Music Club teacher needs advice!

Hi all,
I have started a music club at a high school here in Saipan (north of Guam). A drum set was unearthed in a storage room, and I'm told it needs new skins. I know NOTHING about drums but I promised to take a stab at finding out how to choose/buy/install new skins for the set.
The set says CB drums. If you need more info let me know.

The cymbals seem to have taken a beating (no pun intended) from our brutal tropical climate also.
There are no drum shops on this small island, so if it's possible to order the skins online and install them ourselves, that would be ideal.
Any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

LeeAnn

It's a regular beginner set. Pics don't work for me. As long as things are straight and all the parts are there things should be fine.

Drumheads are measured in inches, so just find a ruler and take a measure.

Heads are about sound, but also about durability, so it depends on how it will be used and by who. Same goes for cymbals.

I agree. I am not sure what prices for drumheads would be, but I would recommend getting very durable drumheads since it will be played by students. Also I would say call a local music store and see if they have anyone that would be willing to change the heads for you. A number of music stores will usually be willing to take a bit of time to do that for someone in your situation.

If there is a local hotel with a house band, befriend the drummer for help.

^^ this seems like great advice. There’s no substitute for a bit of experience and a drummer would be able to look over what you have and advise whether it’s worth the investment in new heads and whether you’re missing anything else. There must be a drummer on the island who’s prepared to volunteer a couple of hours of his/her time for a good cause.

Good luck.

Just to be clear, you measure the diameter.

Well you could measure the circumference, calculate back to get the radius, and then double that to get the diameter.... but yeah just measuring the diameter is easier.
