Default UK Drum teachers

Question for the UK educators here.

I'm working for a band laced in England, so make my trips over the pond a little more profitable I was thinking about conducting a few clinics on off days from the tours, and also booking 1-on-1 lessons if I have a block of a few days available while there.

I'd like to know some of the going rates for private lessons over there.
Granted I'd have the "special guest drum teacher from Hollywood" thing going on, but I'd mostly be relying on this bands popularity to help market. I don't want to overcharge because I'm not an A lister with a big name.

If you don't feel comfortable discussing pay rates publicly you are more than welcome to send me a private message.

I've seen quite a bit of your work. What can you offer the people who would pay you for your clinics?

Edit: compared to someone established in the area

I'm not a UK drum teacher but I've worked alongside well over two dozen private instrumental teachers in the last couple of years. The 'going rate' around my parts (Kent, in the South-East) is around 30 an hour - which is more-or-less around what the Musicians Union recommends. Depending on who you're teaching it can be broken down in different ways.

I work in a school and most of our students have 10, 20-minute lessons or 15, 30-minute lessons. If my memory serves me, I've paid 50 for an hour before but that wasn't for drum lessons and it was somebody with an impeccable track record. I know of rates exceeding 100 an hour for very specialist classical 'consulting' teachers (i.e. coaching professional instrumentalists).

It may depend where you are in the country. My experience has been in South-East London and East Kent.

I have fairly regular lessons with a name drummer in London and he charges between 40 and 50.

You're looking about 30 an hour if you're degree qualified for lessons, maybe more depending if you're in London.

I struggle to see the point of clinics unless you're a famous drummer, you'll probably put yourself out of pocket doing them. There's tonnes of stuff on youtube.

You're better off trying to get some paid gigs on your off days. Try and get a dep somewhere but I wouldn't know where to tell you to start!

I've been very lucky with drum teachers living in the middle of England, my drum teacher at uni was very good friends with Jim Chapin and Jim stayed with him numerous times when he came over. Most of the drummers in my year got 1-1 lessons with him, he came over at least once a year and that was in his 80s. I paid 40 for about 3 hours in 2004.

Looks like going rates are close to what it is in the states given the exchange rate. Thanks for the info. I appreciate the feedback.
