Default Hernia Surgery

Tomorrow , August 1st, I will be having hernia surgery. Supposed to be day surgery, in and out, so I will be away from the keyboard for a few days, hopefully no more. Please behave yourselves and stay on topic and out of trouble. Peace. johnny

I suspect a rigid guy like yourself will require a double-mesh application. :)

Wishing you all the best, John!

Good luck under the knife, Kemo Sabe. I'm sure you're in very good hands.

As far as DW member antics while you're recovering? Please recall the movie Gremlins. ;)

Hey, John, you going to spin that ball-cap of yours around backwards and grin-and-bear it to show us all what a true hard-a$$ you really are, and pass on the anesthetic? :)

Oh wow Dad is out for a few days!

Paaaaarrrrrr tay!

Kidding John. I hope you didn't get this from the extra weight of the die cast hoops.

How did it happen?

You don't need anesthesia, you can tough it out :)

Let this be a lesson learned, and start drinking a few more cups of coffee in the morning. That will help keep any future hernias from erupting. :)

Good luck on the procedure! From what I've seen and heard, it's a basic procedure these days and I don't think they use anesthesia at all. It'll be fun?

This procedure will require General anesthesia as it is a repair from a previous repair. This will be my third. Too many jobs where I did a lot of lifting in the past and just wore me out.

I'll pray for you to be in and out as you expect, with a speedy recovery. I was just posting about heavy hardware cases in another thread a few minutes ago. I guess you'll not picking one of those up for a little while. I love growing older. lol.

Heal well brother! I had this surgery in November of last year. No big deal if you are getting the laparoscopic version of the surgery. I was back in the saddle in 6 six weeks, actually I played a gig on week six but did not carry anything - band members carried everything.

Be sure to only wear loose pants or just plain sweatpants with an elastic waistband - I'm telling you this because I made the mistake of wearing jeans (loose even) on week 3 and some of my stitched entry points (lower abdomen, just above the jewels) bled out a bit - doesn't look very nice in public to say the least. Also, be careful when it's time to pinch a loaf, do not force it - eat extra fiber and etc.

I sympathise with anyone who has ever had a bad hernia.
We live in a time when we can take for granted that a hernia can be fixed. In the old days if you got a hernia, well, that was it. too bad. sit down for the rest of your life.

I had a bad hernia a few years ago. I couldn't walk 50 yards before I was in agony. My wife shoveled our parking lot and I felt like a lazy loser when the neighbors saw her out there being good for me.

Get well fast Grunt!

Nothing too sexy. Pretty routine stuff. I worked at this hospital before I retired so basically no secrets. Saw a lot of good friends. Circumstances could have been better..... but oh well. One minor setback but no big deal at my age. I will leave you with the word...Orchiectomy.

Getting back to normal. I see I have some work to do here. Misplaced threads, etc. you know, the normal fare. Thanks to Jon and Bernhard for doing my share. I will be back to normal in about a week. Still not allowed to drive, but soon. Keep up the good work lads and laddettes.

I had a hernia op when I was 17 which apparently is quite unusual as it's normally at a much younger or older age. I'm 58 now. I'm sure you know this but always bend knees and crouch with a straight back to lift. It's easy to forget and just to bend forward but that can weaken the ruptured area. I still bend forward but I try to consciously remember not to and last night crouched to lift my heavy hardware cases at my gig.

Really pleased to hear you're recovering fine!

I had two hernia operations when was really young, age 7 or 8 for the first one, which my mom attributed to me screaming robustly as a baby (roaring with laughter), but in those days there was no such thing as in-and-out, so I languished in a hospital bed for a week after each operation, chocking-down bland porridge for breakfast, and even blander meals for lunch and supper, and a wheelchair was my main means of locomotion until I was allowed to walk.

There was another kid in the bed next to me that I hit it off with, and we'd terrorize the hospital floors racing our wheelchairs up and down the hallways from the crack of dawn until late into the evening! Never missed a day! Had a ball, and the nurses loved us. We got the royal treatment. One nurse gave us a carte blanche license to visit the cafeteria fridge to get ice cream, while the other nurses put up with my room buddy and I, propelling spitballs at them at high velocity through our drinking straws when they'd enter our room to check-up on us!

Good times. Brings back good memories.

John, you're the third person I know who has had recent hernia surgery. One is my wife who actually had a LINX device implanted for a hiatal hernia (basically, a magnetic ring that goes around the base of the esophagus). Anyway, I hope your recovery is going well!
