If anything the Super Mario set will inform future generations just how bad the graphics were in early video games. All pixelated and stuff :P

I worked so many years in ad agencies and printing companies that one day while strolling through the supermarket, I saw the most awfully pixellated box of pancakes — until I got closer and realized it was waffles.

For Hollywood Jim - if the snare made your brain hurt, imagine an entire kit!

As cool as I think others see it as cool, it just has that "I clash with everything" vibe, no?

Ahhhhh...... My Eyes!

OK, I just figured out a way to be positive about this kit:
I'm sitting 50 rows back at a large venue Kiss concert. The light show is in full swing. They have those fire displays going on.
I think to myself; "Hum, those drums look interesting. That color looks kind of cool."

I like this finish, it's not a million miles off Oyster and other finishes I've seen over the years. I thought (but on re reading it realised I was mistaken) that the issue with the snare drum further up the post was the black top rim and chrome bottom rim, now that was awful, different for the sake of being different.

I think it's just the lighting in the picture. Pretty sure both hoops are black chrome (or black nickel).

I have a Theory that it's O.K. to mix Ludwig and Rogers. Seeing that this wrap is borderline unacceptable i guess it's O.K. to make it more Fugly! personally i dig it!

Once borrowed a kit with flames. Did the job, but I'd never buy it, or even actively seek it out.

I would agree but ask the following. If we decide we like a certain kit, most times the finish is limited to what the brand offers, so our personality reflects theirs as well.

I stay with natural wood finishes for the most part and am not overly interested in stuff that does not contribute positively to sound.
In addition, many wraps or stains looks great when they come out, but quickly looks outdated. So it affects resale value.
Having said that I do enjoy the reviving of the vintage finished wraps and also that wrapping a drum can contribute to vintage sound.

Itís not easy to product develop drums. There has to be compability with skins and hardware. Tool cost could be significant. Most things have been done already. All brands have the same features or access to same features.
Finishes however are easy to change and the easiest to lure us all into getting a new kit. So thatís what the drum companies do.

And the winning thread response here for beginning to tie this thread in with what I said about Charlie Watts and his '57 Gretsch kit!
