Default A simple drum fill generator

Hey there,

in my spare time, I developed a simple drum fill generator because I'm very bad at coming up with fills so I wondered, why not simply program one, and share it with the community so anyone with the same problem can just profit.

You can find it here : https://github.com/Insomgla/drumfeels

The basic principle is, given sticking patterns as input (like Rll, RLK, RLrr, etc), will create all the possible combinations to match a certain number of beats. I provided a file, example_patterns.txt, which contains some patterns I like to use for groovy music. Obviously, if I were to generate metal fills, I wouldn't use those patterns. At the moment, the program handles 4th, 8th and 16th notes (dotted or not).

This program is also able to generate a random orchestration for the computed fills, if you're like me and always struggle finding one. You will need Lilypond, which is a free software, if you want to be able to render the generated orchestrated fill.

For more information, you can read the README file, which explains a lot.

Anyways, if you have any comment, question, or feedback, feel free.

I thought this would be a thread about Brann Dailor.

Oh well. That's what I get for assuming based on thread title.

I think mac users tend to forget they are a minority. Small developers have less incentive to do a separate development path for computers that make up less than 10% of the market.

I notice these guys even did a linux variation, which is unusual but cool.

And I forgot Windows users have a tough time with humor.

That's not a problem. I was just trying to add a little humor, since I can't download it I can't try it out. I hope you sell 1,000,000

There's a couple of us 10% on this forum who will gladly test for you and offer feedback. Unlike the other 9.99%, I actually know how to use a computer. There you go Gunther, I made a funny!

It's free ;) . You may try the Linux version, it might work on Mac, I don't know.

And thank you AzHeat, all feedbacks, good or bad, are more than welcome.

Next update (coming soon): you'll be able to generate triplet-based fills

The purpose of this software is to help practicing, by giving ideas as far as sticking and orchestration goes. I'm not expecting anyone to use automatically generated fills directly in a piece of music.

As far as I'm concerned, I almost made x4 in term of numbers of "go-to" fills, just by practicing some of the fills this software generated, because I wouldn't have thought about combining groupings like this :)

Insomgla,

I tried running this on my Win10 box first and got a vcruntime140.dll error saying I need to reinstall the application. I tried the Linux on Mac and it says cannot execute binary files, then exits.

Thanks a lot, I'll take a look at it. For Windows, I'm not that surprised, for Linux I'm though.
