Google search, over 10 years ago. Thank you to Bernhard and the moderators (currently Gruntersdad and Bermuda, saw some come and go before them) for creating and maintaining this place.

And yes Henri, it is good to see you!

I can remember back far enough to remember reading posts from these members: Aydee, Jay Norem, DogBreath, Nutha Jason, Death Metal Conga, Karl Crafton, Caddywumpus and others I can't quite recall at this time.

Oh and then there was that whole PEWFLADCC secret society thing....

I had visited the site for the videos several dozen times, and had perused the forum for hours when Googling drum questions. I joined the forum about a year later. It's been a great experience--that is, until Larry showed up and ruined everything.

I wonder what happened to DogBreath, Wavelength, and Steamer...

I was searching for a nesting kit in the early to mid-noughties and stumbled upon a different site at drummersworld.com. One day, while trying to revisit that page, I left out the s and ended up here. I lurked for several years before I joined.

Google searches.

Like a lot lurked on the forums but took the plunge.

Gets me through long days in the office like today. It's useful for advice and makes me realise why there's only one drummer per band :)

When I started to play again after 30 years off this wonderful thing called the internet offered so much help to me. I was simply looking for anything related to drumming in my quest to begin playing again. Hardware advice, ways to monitor resurrecting my technique, sheet music etc. I really don't recall the moment I found it but I joined immediately. It is a gold mine of fantastic information from incredible drummers and newbies alike. It is the best forum I have ever seen music or otherwise.

I got kicked out of another drumming forum because of the heavy-handedness of the mod. I saw my discussions and comments having more to do with the logistics of playing at church, but he thought that talking about seating arrangements in my church classified as "religious discussion" in addition to other discussions. We never could find middle ground.

I found this place, and I haven't left.

Yes, Stan (Steamer) always had a lot of useful things to say about cymbals used in jazz contexts as well as historical knowledge about jazz drummers and recordings.

He hipped me to looking for a d/c 22" K Pre Aged Dry Light Ride and I was lucky to find one that I cherish quite a lot (though I wish it were just bit thinner).

Mine was a little more circuitous route. After laying off drums in the early 80s, I picked up a guitar and started learning in the mid 90s. I was a member of an acoustic guitar forum for years and years. The arguments over maple, mahogany, rosewood, and different species of spruce tops got really boring, so I started looking for drumming magazines. Modern Drummer was around way back then. When I googled it, I found the link to Drummerworld. At first it was just for the articles and videos. I was lurking here before I even had another drum kit. I guess I joined when I started looking for another kit.

SO IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!!!

Seriously - seemed to always land here when doing searches on drum related topics. Lurked for awhile before coming out of the shadows. This is a great resource. Glad to be here. Try to contribute when I can.

Like Henri, life's been a bit busy lately. I feel kind of out of touch. :-(

I found this place, and I haven't left.
I have also found other forums, not just drum ones, to have really heavy-handed, pious mods. Here they have it right on. What I particularly like is that when discussions start to get a bit heated, someone steps in and tells us all to calm down a bit.

For example, I think my first posts here were debunking erroneous comments about the UK's new high speed railway. Gruntersdad stepped in and just told us both to calm down.

I think I then went on to call BS on uncle Larry's snare giveaway.

Essentially, this was due to my experience with other people on other forums. I had been badly influenced, unduly cynical as I thought there couldn't be a place on the internet where people have rational conversations and are decent to each other, well, there is, here.

Not only do the moderators on here manage things in a way that isn't overtly authoritative, they encourage.

As a result, I think the users on this forum are genuinely the best I've seen. Not only great advice about drums, but you can talk about anything and get interesting replies without abuse.

I basically found it due to searching google for drumming advice and I've never looked back. Thankyou all for giving me at least some renewed faith about people on the internet.

Drummers, unlike any others :-)

I've been active on the Pearl forum since 2004 but only recently started looking for other discussion boards. I'd known about Drummerworld since the early 2000s but had never considered joining until I started looking for forums that allowed members to buy and sell items. I joined Drummerworld, Drum Forum and the Vintage Drum Forum at the same time in 2016.

Researching gear. Google search. As has been mentioned, more hits than any single reference/source for multiple searches.

Frequented (mostly lurking) the RMMP group since the dawn of the Internet(s), but started to feel lonely out there some years ago. So I asked where everyone left, and hey, here you are!

I just started learning drums about a year ago, and was looking for sheet music for a song (I can't recall which one right now). Google led me to this thread: http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=79990. Been lurking and learning since then....

Oh, it was a torrid, unbearably hot day of February, 2012. I was looking for some Ringo Starr videos and found the Drummerworld page. A couple days later it was the same thing but with Joe Morello and again the Drummerworld page appeared in my PC screen. I noticed that it had a forum and even if I'm not a drummer I jumped in.

2004- I'm guessing a Yahoo search back then haha. Bernhard had some of the best videos you could download (Quicktime format) and after his Guestbook gained momentum he started the forum. I had an initial username for about a year, had it out with the moderator at the time, then created this one. Pioneer member to say the least.

A few years ago I started a Google search to definitively determine whether my '97 DW Collectors was made with Keller shells or DW shells. 1997 is the cusp year, the year when DW began making its own shells. I had been saying for a long time that my kit was either one of the first DW shell kits or one of the last DW/Keller kits. It was a pretty hard thing to pin down, but my search eventually led me to thread here at DrummerWorld and the answer. It is a Keller shell. I've since found images of the re-rings of other '97 DW kits made after the date stamped inside mine confirming this. Sure enough, I have one of the last 5+3 ply shells. Thank you DrummerWorld.
