Default Sib Hashian...Boston Drummer Passes

Sib Hashian
August 17, 1949 - March 22, 2017
Saddened to hear the news of the passing of Boston drummer Sib Hashian.
Hashian was performing onstage as part of The Legends of Rock Cruise when he suddenly collapsed. Unfortunately, efforts made to resuscitate him failed. The Legends of Rock Cruise which began on March 18th will continue and include musicians performing tributes to Hashian today.
Hashian was recruited by Boston founder Tom Scholz in 1975 when a drummer was needed to present a live showcase for Epic Records to land a deal. Hashian joined Boston and appeared on their massively successful self-titled debut album, as well as on the follow-up, "Don't Look Back," which had combined sales of over 24 million copies.

Too bad. I love that first record. I play it often on the turntable.

Oh man, I loved those records!

At least he died in the saddle. RIP

He laid down some great tasteful drum parts on that first Boston album.

Sad! I wore the grooves out of those first two albums.

Boston...the debut album is phenomenal. No nonsense rocker. Great driving album in the summer.

Brad Delp was a pretty sweet singer too.

He died onstage. Wow. I wonder how many people this has happened to.

I don't think I would want to die onstage. I'd probably mess the song up.

I remember hearing Neil Peart saying he once thought he was having a heart attack on stage, and thinking something like "I can't die. It'll ruin the show!"

Actually, Sib was playing the parts note-for-note that Jim Masdea performed on the demos that Tom submitted to the record label. It's been rumored that Tom used some of the drum tracks from the demos and didn't recut them. Only Tom knows for sure. Not to take anything away from Sib, though. He did all the drums on Don't Look Back.

Definitely a rock and roll way to check out.

In this clip, Tom talks about editing drums for "Don't Look Back":

Saw Sib perform live several times, and I found him to be rather enjoyable.

Nick Menza, last year at The Baked Potato. Oddly enough, he was the band's replacement for their last drummer, who also died on stage.

A couple months ago I was contacted by a popular band in the area and their drummer had a heart attach and died the night before on stage! Not cool!
