Default Arse.....

Bought a new motorhome to replace our old camper van last week.

Thought I'd covered everything...

Found out earlier today that my bass drum doesn't fit through the door.

Oops

Mate... time to get a nesting kit...

Or a 20x12 bass drum...

That is a total pain in the arse.

You could always hold a gig in the motorhome. They're quite big. Provided you can get the bass drum in once...

Had a similar problem with the latest old house reno. Bass drums, 18"depth, in hard cases won't fit through the doors.

Easy, just install a cat flap big enough to fit the bass drum through.

....Then get a very large cat to justify it even more, like a lion or tiger. Whichever one is bigger.

Seriously guys. Tis no laughing matter. Well, it is. My wife and I spent months trying to source THE perfect motorhome within our budget and had a tick box as long as an arm.

D'oh

Desperately hope it will squeeze in through the front doors...gulp

I'm sorry for your situation. Can you buy a smaller matching bass drum that would fit? It might be a cheaper solution than swapping your motor home.

Dismantle the motor home and rebuild it around your bass drum. Simples!

The interior of this RV has storage space for a full kit? What kind of beast is this? Aren't there large exterior storage spaces between the wheel wells?

Fixed it for ya (the comment, not the motorhome).

No need to thank. ;)

Then there's this...

LOL at fess's post.

Aw man that sucks! (said like Maxwell Smart) Missed it by that much!

Eagerly awaiting the results of the front door entry attempt.

You could take off the hoops like Kamak mentioned. It would have to fit then.

Just don't put them back on until you take it out again :)

I'm gobsmacked that detail slipped your drum addicted eye. For shame!

So a motorhome and drumset. Are you going to just play the drums wherever you stay for the night? Is that the plan? If so get a bop kit.

It wasn't until the first time I tried to put my bass drum in my old car that I learned it will not fit in my old car. That was 10 years of getting bandmates to pick me up and borrow trucks to get to gigs. Wasn't as bad as it sounds, but I'm so much happier now with my (albiet somewhat soccer mom-y) crossover. I take my own stuff wherever I want to take it.

Just wanted you to know you're not alone in the bass drum/door size problem camp.

Pretty much the only good thing that came out of my grandmother's passing last year was getting her old (quite fast) estate car. Now I can fill it with even more *&^@!

Well... On a positive note, Mrs Squadleader fits through the door.

If you've a receiver type trailer hitch in the rear, you could use one of these:

We don't fly so like to trundle around the UK and Europe in it for our holidays.

But also...we love to be able to have a good drink post gig (specially if there are other bands on) and not have to worry about getting home. Legal to park and sleep in a motor home anywhere which it is legal to park a car in the UK provided you don't cause an obstruction. So, usually, right outside the venue :-)
