Dear Parser,

Thank you for your words!

The Ride is actually a Leopard Crash 18 by Sabian, that at the time I used pretty often.

Thank you Karl!

Good to hear from my neighbours also (I live in Germany too, in Munich, where do you come from?).

Great that you love jazz and dedicate to it (I have nothing against other types of music, of course). I heard your jazz file, you are doing good, just keep studing hard! (like we all do...)

Dear TopCat,

You are very kind, thanks. Beautiful Gretsch you've got...

Wonderful drumming, mate! I loved every moment of it! It's a thrill to see playing like this which should be on the site of www.drummerworld.com, but instead, see it on the forum!! Unbelieveable. Remind me why you aren't on this site again?? Lol. It is interesting that you use a matched grip technique on this genre and style of jazz. I love your playing man! I take it that you are a professional, correct? Like Drummer Karl, if you wouldn't mind checking out my jazz drumming on, 'Take Five', then that would be great! Please comment on it if you listen!

Again, amazing drumming!

Dear funked up,

Thank you so much for the nice words! Where do you come from?
Yes, I'm a professional drummer, also drum teacher at some schools here in Germany. I play matched and traditional, but the first better, therefore the stuff that is most "involved" I play almost always with matched.

I checked out your file, but somehow it wasn't working, at least in my computer. This means: I could access the site with no problem and could see the "player" of your song, but it didn't play anything...

Dear Karl,
I haven't played in Kassel, lately (aprox. in the last 20 years!), 'though about 6 years ago I think I played in Erfurt (reference for others: a town near Kassel), but can't remember anymore with whom, LOL.

Thank you ALL for checking out the stuff!

Alex,

I don't know why the link won't work. How strange. Oh well, thanks for trying! I am from England, and am planning on attending either LCM (Leeds College of Music), Drum-Tech, or Drum Institute next year.

It is great that you play both grips. Versatility is extremely important! :-)

Dear funked_up,

Regarding: "I don't know why the link won't work", those are the mysteries of Internet!

I lived in UK (I love UK and it's people) for a short while and gave a clinic at Leeds College of Music in 1982.

Best regards and luck in your carear,

Alex,

You did a clinic at Leeds? That's awesome man! How were the students? I visited a few weeks ago, but the students were on holiday so I couldn't really find out.

Tim

Thanks for the good luck, I am sure I will need it!

Dear funked-up,

I didn't see any drumstudent play then, but the students on the other instruments were great (I play with them during the clinic). I understand that is one of the major jazz schools in Europe, and one of the oldest, together with Graz (Austria), Cologne (Germany) and a few others.

I hanged out with the drum teacher then, again, in 1982 (I was 22 years old), he was an australian drummer, Tony Faulkner, who wrote an amazing book , "Solo Transcriptions for Drummers", with transcriptions of jazz drummers (Roach - Haynes - Elvin - Philly Joe - Shelly Mane - Tony), which are among the best, most occurate, transcriptions I've seen so far of these musicians. I don't know if he is still there...He was really nice with me, as everybody else in the school.

Check out some at my site!

Man, that's awesome! Sounds like it is a good place and everyone is nice. They had really nice facilities when I went there to have a tour. I am auditioning at the Christmas time. Do you have any advice for it? I hope Faulkner is still the teacher there!!

Thanks so much for your help,

Tim

Dear funked_up,

Well, Leeds College is one of the main schools not only in UK but in Europe, and is an INTEGRAL school, meaning with this: is NOT ONLY for drums but for all instruments, and on a University Level (TERCIARY level, if you know what I mean), so it's a much sought after place to study.
You'll have the possibility to study AND PLAY TOGETHER ALL THE TIME with some of the best students of the other instruments in the UK, and interaction is one of the things that make you grow the most, and is many times the harder thing to get (because of the organization-logistic needed, experience, contacts, etc...). Besides, you'll receive great drum tuition, and your drum camarades also will fill the previous profile (some of the best students in the UK).

This is not to say it is the only place and way to learn, but definetely THERE you'll be at one of the most positive enviroments available for your development.

I wish you the best in your audition!

Dear theduke86,

Thank you for your positive comments.
I'm curious to know which resemblence you found... In any case: John Riley! Great player, educator and FRIEND, I love the guy!

Dear millersc and hotsauce3n,

Thanks for all your beautiful comments!

Dear MrCrazy,

Thanks a lot!

Dear funked_up,

Don't worry, it was my pleasure.

Incidentally, I do have a service where I address any drum topic EXTENSIVELY privately on the Internet for a small fee (depends on number of questions and ammount of work for answering), but it was no problem to answer you briefly to this at the forum.

Again, my very best wishes,

Yeah, Alex, that playing was awesome! Love the bass player in that too. So, what rudiments do you like to use on your soloing? I notice you use alot. I love to use 5 stroke rolls, 6 stroke rolls, and inverted 6 note rolls. What about you?

Tim

Nice pic too :P

Dear funked-up,

Thank you for your nice words and interest.

I don't base my playing on rudiments ('though I did studied all that extensively too), but, IN SHORT, I think about music as a languaje and try to expand my knowledge of the languaje always with new "words" (phrases), "effects" (density, space, dynamics, and others), concepts, etc...

Alex Sanguinetti (Valencia, Spain)

Hey Alex, hip playing! Saw you over at HOD, you didn't post this there though.

Slick bone player there! Some fast stuff he's pulling off. Shame about the sound though, i'd think it's a little busy, but that may be just to do with the sound from the mic on the camera. Very cool stuff - you got any recordings out?

Dear LDGuy,

Thank you. It is just from the mic of my cheap video camera (and rather old because this was filmed 13 years ago). The film was at HOD a number of times, even last week too.
