I think we can safely conclude that many people use lots of brands. Or vice versa. Lots of people use many brands.

Default Re: How many different Brands do you Use?

I have some preferred brands, but for the most part I feel free to use what works best.
  • My drums are Ludwig and Yamaha, with additional DW and Mapex snares. I play on a Mapex kit at church.
  • I own mostly Zildjian cymbals but I own an LP Rancan and Wuhan Lion china. I also have an old bell cymbal that I created from an old Pearl crash cymbal. I play some Sabians at church.
  • My hardware is a hodgepodge, mostly Yamaha, but with bits from Pearl, Gibraltar, Tama, Ludwig, and DW. My pedals are DW and Gibraltar, and I have a DW and a PDP hi-hat stand.
  • My electronics are mostly Yamaha (e-pads and mixer), with M6 in-ears, and a mix of Shure, Audio-Technica, and Sennheiser mics on the kit right now.
  • My only brand non-negotiables are heads (Evans) and sticks (Vic Firth), because they most affect the sound of my drums and the way I play.

I won't go through and list each piece of gear, but I have a few core brands, and then other pieces.

For drums, I play Yamaha.

- Recording Custom (10,12,14,16 + 18 & 22 BD)
- Club Custom (12, 16, 22)
- Club Custom Snare (14x5.5)

For cymbals, I play Zildjians. Mainly Keropes with a set of K Con hats and a set of old Canadian New Beats.

Snares: Joyful Noise Bronze, Craviotto Maple, Brady Jarrah, Ludwig COB.

Wow...pretty simple for me compared to most...I'm pretty anal. Yamaha drums and throne, Zildjian cymbals, Mapex hardware, Remo heads, Los Cabos sticks. Then I've got 4 snares; Yamaha, Pork Pie, Ludwig, and Udrum.

Brand loyalty can play a role in a drummer's life, but then reality and the wallet step in and alter that thought process.

I saved for my "Holy Grail" kit (Gretsch) and knew that was the kit I was using for life. Played a lot of "Shit kits" before them.
Everything else around it though is subject to change depending on the need.

Drums: Gretsch Catalina Club Rock in mahogany. Virgin 22x20/12/16

Cymbals: Sabian 13" AA hats, 21" AA dry ride. Zildjian 17" Projection crash, Zildjian 18 crash, Wuhan 18" china, AA Meinl 12" china with a Zildjian Zil Bel stacked.

Pedals: Pearl 902 doubles, Pulse 2 legged hi hat stand, DW 5000 single, Pulse single.

Stands: Tama, Pearl, Thor, Sound Percussion.

Sticks, Vic Firth, Pro Mark.

As you can see, it's quite the hodge podge of brands. All work well for what I need and have yet to let me down.

I have two 4-piece kits representing lots and lots of different brands, to the point where it's kind of absurd to call it a Pearl kit or a Spaun kit. That sort of description leaves out so many brands which are just as significant when it comes to the overall sound of the kit.

Default Re: How many different Brands do you Use?

2 Kits; Noonan, Yamaha, 3 Cymbal brands; Zildjian, Paiste, Bosphorus; 4 Hardware brands Yamaha, Pearl, Axis, Tama; 4 snare brands; Brady, Ayotte-Keplinger, Noonan, Pearl.

Basically two full set-ups with spares.
