I custom ordered them from an authorized TAMA dealer ( 6 months wait though). Thank's again for your nice words.

No doubt the StarClassic - better in any points ! StarClassic are high-end gear and Swingstar are entry level but Swinstar sound really good with good heads. I must say my kit bearing edge was very sharp so it contribute to have a good resonance and TAMA phil. Mahogany is from a good grade (remember when people told how TAMA Rockstar sounded good for the price).

Very nice set. You have a lot of stuff in a relatively small space and I appreciate efficiency like that. I would like some photos with more light to see more details. Big vocabulary and very versatile set.

What do you think of the LP percussion blocks? Why do you have them mounted to the left? Do you do ride patterns on them?

Very nice kit man. I have a Swingstar too (and I threw on my old p.o.s. set, but tuned it to sound good), but that thing puts mine to shame. I love it though all the same- for the price (and new G2 heads on mine) I haven't heard anything that comes near to rivaling it.

I love the cymbals, especially that ride!

Thank's ! I think I try to optimise my space mostly for efficiency while playing. As for picture, more will coming soon unfortunately I forgot to take outdoor pics this summer and here up north, winter is already arrived. But I take good note of getting better lightning for next pics.

The wood blocks aren't LP but MP (for Mano Percussion) a Latin Percussion equivalent but cheaper, the green one is sounding really good but the blue one (higher pitched) sound too choked or too high and miss projection. I use them two ways, with my right arm on the hi-hat and left on the block or with my left arm when alternating between snare - hi-hat - block while riding on my ride or toms or cowbell etc...

Thank you, I appreciate the nice comment, I love the ride too, now I'll look forward to get a second (20" or 21") on my left over the hat.

Thank's ! I like my kit. Obviously I'm not a pro drummer (still very amateur) so it does the job right and did not cost an arm and leg. With these Aquarian heads and good tuning, they sound very good (I wouldn't say amazing like a SC or SCP).

Your's nice too, I love the DW 7000 double pedal. Big setup !

MAPEX M birch would be my first choice if I'd be on budget. Now, if I have to upgrade, I'd choose the Saturn or a RMV X5.

I had it for about 100$ usd which was a good deal - Get your earmuff because it's loud... I like the dark tone it has to offer and the bell sound good, it miss stick definition and use it as a crash/ride is not a really good idea (it can be done but I dont like the crashing sound it emit). At the end, you really need to find the sweet spots all over because these are where the sound is beautiful.

Nice drums. And those Istanbul hats look pretty cool - did they turn out to be what you were looking for?

Did you play around with various head combinations first? Or did you decide upfront that you wanted single ply heads on the smaller toms and double ply on the floor toms? I use Aquarian heads too - clear Studio-X on the toms, Hi-Energy on the snare and Response II on the bass (I have ordered a Super Kick II). My problem is that my toms seem to respond differently to the heads. The 14" tom sings beautifully, the 12" not so much, but still good, but my 10" always sounds a bit choked. I'm wondering whether I shouldn't use different heads for the different sizes.

The Istanbul turn out nice (better sounding than what I already had). I wanted single ply head but since I have 12" 13" 14" toms, I wanted to make a small sound gap between my 13" and 14" and this has been achieved by using the single and double ply combo. I can't recommend you more to opt for the satin finish texture coated, these will let you toms sing. I heard about small diameter tom chocking when used with thicker muffled head.

You have the exact Tom setup that I want!!! I'll probably get with my second... and most likely final kit. I'm aiming to save up for a Pearl Masters or a Reference, depends on what I'm playing at the time but right now I'm leaning toward a Reference.

Thank's the nice kind of words

Texture coated are absolutely awesome heads, easy to tune, stay in tune, good sounding and durable (really tough head). I'm sure you would love "that great Gretsch sound" with the satin finsh texture coated. They hide the imperfection of entry level kit behind the wall of good tone & resonance. Your Gretsch is probably a Blackhawk which is a good decent set.

Thank's again :-)

You'll go with those size too... great ! REFERENCE are hell of drum kit - good luck to reach your goal. The only con that I heard about them is their heavy weight... if you gig a lot better train your back muscle. You can also give a look at TAMA bubinga drum kit which are sounding so deep.

Good luck :-)

JUST WANT TO UPDATE MY KIT THREAD WITH MY NEW PICS

(I know, I know I have already make a thread about these pics but I'll only keep on thread for my kit and that since the beginning of my membership)

Here's new pics of my kit after getting some new heads.

I replaced all my toms reso with Aquarian Classic clear, fit a Focus-x batter on my steel snare and I replaced my TAMA stock reso with REMO Fyberskin ambassador then installed a GK style decal.

So here they are and lots of them :-)

I decided to update the " MY KIT" thread... Some new gears around !

Well gentlemen, it's about time for me to upgrade some of my gears.

First, I planned long time ago to replace my stock HP-30 pedal, I was in shopping mode for a long time on ebay for a good double pedal in good condition. I had four product I had my eyes on which were TAMA IC, PEARL ELIM, YAMMY FD and DW (above the 4000 series). Not much luck in winning bid or BIN, I decided I had enough and went with something brand new. First, I'm definitely not a pro and second, I'm not a "SOAB" rich guy so based on that and on many thread in drummer forum, I decided the DW 7002PT was a good choice, it's considered as one of the best pedal for the money.

I ordered from an ebay store and received two free gifts which was a drop clutch and Zildjian baseball cap. I also went shopping at my local dealer, which hold Aquarian products in stock, for a double kickpad. No luck there were any but the good news was he had a Coated Force 1 in stock and priced at 25$ cdn and these series of heads come with a free single kickpad, guess what I done...

I finally decided to treat all my toms with tung oil so I reorganised my setup in the "1 up two down" config. I now have 12x9 UP and 14x11 - 16x16 down. I also reduced the number on cymbals, I removed both china and my splash.

Now have a look...

My treated 10" and 13", next will be the 12" and 14" making my kit 10" - 13" - 16".

Thank's sir

You missed an opportunity with those hi-hats, they offer a good range of versatibility. They are very fast responding and are just bright enough with good darker complex sound to cut throught even if they are 13".

How do you feel 'bout those B8 crashes? Because I'm going to buy B8's or B8 pro's soon, so I'm curious..

I'd say for the price they are the best budget "cast" sheet B8 alloy cymbals, I have decided first to go with the thin crash series which darken the pitch little bit but they do the jo and even under mic they doesn't sound too bad. In fact in many vids I've seen where the drummer cymbals were Sabian B8, the sound was OK and some peoples even said that B8 hi-hat had them surprised. I'll eventually replace them with AAXplosion and I will probably send those B8 pies to Johan (amateur cymbalsmith doing a very professional job) in Europe for lathing and rehammering them to my specs.

Thank's.

It's hard to compare since they have their own character. Someone told me on another -forum, it would compare best to Sabian "fast-hat" but I can't say I never tried the fast-hat.

Great kit, I love Tama.

And I couldn't help but notice that you bought from Steve's, so I'm guessing you either live in Montreal or in the center of the universe. which is it? Althouh I place my bet on Montreal.
