Default Tord Gustavsen

Any fellow fans of Tord Gustavsen's music? He has just released a new beautiful album.

I love Jarle Vespestad's unique drumming with the trio/quartet/ensemble.

Here are some examples:

I have four of his albums: Being There, Changing Places and The Ground (with his Trio), and Restored, Returned with his Ensemble. I also have a number of albums by Silje Nergaard, whom he accompanied prior to branching out with his own band. Absolutely beautiful music, and Jarle has a great style.

Thanks for the heads-up on the new album, I'll check it out.

I'm somewhat familiar with Tord Gustavsen's music, and had the opportunity to see his Quartet play the other night in San Francisco. What an experience it was...

The whole band was good, but Jarle Vespestad (whose drumming I know more from his Supersilent days than his association with TG) floored me with a nuanced and extremely musical performance that was entertaining and educational to watch. By utilizing a variety of extended techniques and striking implements (which he regularly switched with great fluidity), he produced an amazing range of sounds he was able to produce in his drums and cymbals. Sorry to gush so much, but I seriously came away from the experience feeling like I had just attended a 1.5 hour drum clinic on low-volume intensity, textural variation, and musical application of extended techniques.

Definitely looking forward to digging deeper into Vespestad's recorded output with Tord (and anyone else for that matter!)

Dutch: I think I love his three trio albums the most.

Percussive: Amazing, hope to see them live too, one day! No Switzerland dates so far...

Yes, big fan here!

I saw the quartet in London about year ago and was blown away. It was one of the concert experiences you get completely lost in. I never shifted in my seat, or thought, "Boy, I could use a drink." It was just completely engrossing. I didn't even want to listen to any music for awhile afterwards. I just wanted to let it sit it my head for a bit. Amazing.
