Default Gibraltar 3311-DB Tension Issues...Bad pedal?

So first of all I bought this pedal for $80 when it said the retail price was like $150. First thing I noticed is it didn't really feel too good, but this is still my first double bass pedal (I use to use standard kick on e drums + hi hat pedal for a second kick to start off...)

Anyway, the tension becomes loose after about 5 minutes of playing and its really frustrating because I can't find a good tension that feels comfortable. Is this pedal just awful? should I sell it and find another...really there is a lot of issues, the slave pedal has HORRIBLE lag i'm talking almost a second behind the main pedal, it squeaks, and just feels really clunky. Is there ANYTHING I can do? thanks ..

What did you expect to get for 80 bucks?
