I use the Ludwig metronome app on my iPhone. It works pretty good and is free.

Any of the dr beat metronomes are good. I haven't tried the tama metronome.

My favorite is the "metron" app for iOS.

Mike Mangini uses the "tempo advance" app. It looks like it has some good features.

I've had a Dr. Beat since 1982. !!! Surely recommended if you want a fairly inexpensive, stand alone device.

Otherwise, I use my old Alesis drum machine and I've just downloaded the Polynome app which is fantastic. http://www.polynome.net/

There are several other apps that look good too and most are free. IIRC, Mike Johnston uses the Virtual Metronome app.
