Default Whats in a name?

I am a founding member of the National Museum, of the United States Army and today I got the latest newsletter and there is an article showing four Norman Rockwell paintings that will be shown in the museum. The curator of the art for the museum is Sarah G Forgery. Really?

In high school there was a teacher by the name of Mr. Vendetta. Never had him but I'm assuming he's a guy who could hold a grudge. We also had Mr. Broccoli and Mr. Byrd. Neither of them looked like their namesake.

The guy who lives across the street from me has the last name of Nabors so I can honestly say that the Nabors are my neighbors. I kind of wish that the guy who lives in the house alongside of ours was named Larry Neggsdor. But ultimately, my favorite would have to be if some folks moved into the house for sale on the corner and their last name was Dover. That would be Ben and Eileen, of course.

I used to work with a woman whose surname was Ball. When she was pregnant, people often asked her what she was going to call the baby. Invariably, she responded "If it's a boy, he's going to be called Daniel; if it's a girl, she's going to be called Ophelia."

I bet he/she had their own direct contact number. Transferring calls to him/her must have been a nightmare!

Back in the day, I knew a drummer called Tom Floor. Always found that amusing :)

A friend of mine worked at the desk of a sleazy No-tell Motel many years ago as a part time job while he was in college. His coworkers name was, "Joe Pecker".

I was 23, just out of the Army and working part time to make needs meet while back in college. I was working as a maintenance man at the local YMCA. The Head man was Charlie Wuntz. The motto on the workshop door was, "Whatever Charlie Wuntz, John Getz."

I have always wondered how people with names like Joe Pecker and Fuk Yu made out when confronting members of Law Enforcement?

When my dad and his family moved from the Netherlands to the USA, our last name was spelled Fakkeldij, and when pronounced in Dutch, it sounds like "f*@# all day" in English. So they changed the spelling when they came here, and now it sounds like "faculty", as in a school's faculty. I thought it might be worth a chuckle.

I remember watching the news as a kid and the anchor man's name was Dick Wood. I don't remember the channel, but it was in upstate NY in like the 80's before I moved to Arkansas.

I have a customer named Dick Cannon.

Pretty intimidating name.

Like if he didn't like the price I quoted him, a cannonball (or a kidney stone) would shoot out of his fly.

Yes, we've pulled that on the receptionist via the tannoy before today. Never gets tiring ;) ;) ;)

I genuinely - genuinely took a flight a couple of years ago, & the pilot introduced himself as captain Troy Tempest. Of course, I thought it was a joke (as did every male passenger over 40), until he greeted the passengers on disembarking, & there was the badge of proof!

I went through Air Force tech school years ago with a Schmuck. Seriously, the guy's name was "Joseph T. Schmuck". No one ever kept a straight face when calling his name.

I also went to school with a girl named "Winnie Bear".

Awe c'mon Grunt. A drummer called Tom Floor & an airline pilot called Captain Troy Tempest has to make the grade - surely?

Aw, I don't know anyone with funny names. Although, my name's Sasha, which is Russian for Alexander and I've always confused people who think it's only a girls name. Pres. Obama isn't helping, but now I know he's not Nigerian. Instead, he's passing along his Russian heritage...

Oh, and Tom Floor floored me. I love how it only works because he's a drummer.

I find it ironic that in Australia on of the big beer brewers is called Cooper's. As we know a cooper makes wine barrels.

As an aside, my last name is Moore. And since I do live in Australia I wanted to name my daughter Ivanna Ski.....but that got vetoed.

The adult film industry has a lock on this topic. Candy Samples, Bunny Bleu, Little Oral Annie, Pandora Peaks, Bunny Luv, Holly Ryder, Jacklyn Lick, Janet Jacme, Kayla Kleevage, Monique DeMoan, Sindee Coxx, Toppsy Curvey, Wendy Whoppers, Alina Plugaru, Courtney Cummz, Echo Valley, Flick Shagwell, Jessica Bangkok, Lolly Badcock, Maxi Mounds, Aaliyah Love, and Jessie Rogers just to name a few.

Let it be known I had to look these up. The list was massive, and I was somewhat disappointed to not find the names Rock Johnson and Sharon Peters.

In my Army basic training (Ft Sill, Oklahoma, May through July 1983), our company commander was Captain Panek (you can guess the pronunciation). I always wondered if he made the rank of Major or even General.

When I was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, I ran into a guy who's last name was Major. His current rank? Sergeant, of course. (For the uninitiated, "Sergeant Major" is the highest rank for non-commissioned officers in he US Army). We always barked out his name a bit louder when he cam in the building - it raised the "pucker factor."

OK boys and girls in an attempt to keep the site youth friendly and not to rehash all of the names we learned or made up in the seventh grade, we shall stop here and thank everyone for participating. Even those who just didn't get it.
