Default Adjusting the double kick for speed

So I've been curios for a while now as to what makes a double kick easy to play fast continuous patterns with. I suspect it has something to do with the springs, if I tighten them the kicks are closer to my bass drum and if I loosen them the kicks are further away from the bass drum. I've made the assumption that the closer the kicks are to the bass drum the easier it will be to play fast, however I'm not sure. Anyone able to help me out here?

No set rules to play fast and no different rules to play slow either, you just need a "setting" which will allow you to do both comfortably and a lot, I mean, a lot of practice...

I did a thread about pedal(s) setting a while ago, check the OP, it might be of some help for you, remember that the "setting" is not just the spring on the pedal, it's much more than that and includes how you sit behind your kit.

that was a great post on the settings. although its easier to play fast with your beaters closer to the head as it is less effort.

but adjust your pedals to where you are not burning yourself out.. bass drum head tension has alot to do with it as well.

basically use his list of settings and play around till you feel good

I set my beaters pretty far back. Its always felt awkward to me with them close.
