Default Stacks?

Hellooo

I think I need to buy more stuff again.

I want a stack but:

I don't want a stick eater.

Some of them have the edge of the top cymbal curling upward and so you're always playing on the edge, do not want that.

What are my best options here?

Depends what you want the stack to do. I use a 14" TrashFormer with a 8" splash that's got a crack around the bell on top of it. Short, snappy, buzzy and trashy. It's even a little quicker than my 14" china. I play them together for fills.

If you don't want the "inverted lip" chewing up sticks, you could always flip the stack upside down like a china...

It could be used in a louder volume setting, like playing djent or progressive.

I did look at the sabian chopper and the meinl things but I wonder if those smaller, faster ones would get the volume I need. I'm just not sure.

Jojo Mayer has always set up his stack as a hihat cymbal on top of an inverted china (lip facing down). I experment with those from time to time because they can be used more like hihats instead of just a stack and I do enjoy them! This afternoon I just put together a stack consisting of a 14" Meinl Sand Hat top over a 12" wuhan chinese. It's very trashy!! I have it set up on a remote hihat stand so I can control how open or tight the sound is, which is fun.

Having tried the choppers out in music stores, it always felt like a set of tightly closed hats rather than a stack. I'm not sure they'd work for the percussive djent/metal thing in louder volumes so I'd recommend going a different route!

2 crashes on top of each other can also work nicely. I've stacked 16s onto 18s and 20s, and gotten some cool and useful sounds that way.
