Default double ply

Hey guys. The time has come for new heads. Currently my remo emperors last 3 months or so before they lose their tone. I thinking of switching to Evans g2 over g1s or g1 top and bottom. What i am wondering is if single ply heads will last half the time of double ply, because if that is the case i can't really afford to do that. Thanks in advance

Depends on how your heads wear out. If you're denting your Emperors, single ply heads with 7-mil film will probably be a waste of money to you. You may need to go to a thicker 12- or 14-mil head and see if that works. If you don't dent heads but are referring to wearing out as in losing tone, then you probably won't see much difference in single-ply heads.

They will last for the same time if you only hit them half as much!

Alright thanks guys. Currently I've had my emps on for around 5 months ( hasn't been in the budget to replace) and they lost there tone a month or two ago. There's 1 dent on one head but thats it, so its more tone loss then denting

Not sure about durability, but I heard some drums with White Suede Emps that sounded amazing.

Try G14s. All (and more) of the low end, way more beef (IMO) than 2-ply heads. I don't see mine wearing out any time soon. As for reso heads, G1s or clear ambassadors or whatever should work fine. Maybe try a G12 on your floor tom if you want it a bit more controlled than the rack toms as I do.

don't be afraid to try clear ambassadors as batters, also. i've never broken one (i can and do slam), but my toms are flat, so i'm striking the drums at a very shallow angle- almost a rimshot (i reserve the right to rimshot on my toms). they've always been my baseline head, batter and reso. if i can't get a monster sound out of it, i usually find something wrong with the drum or mount (usually the mount). ambassadors are 10 mil, btw.
