Default Just finished my retro field drum!

I always liked to sound of older field snares, so I build my own custom model. It is a retro look, early 1900s. It has is a 14x12 10 ply Keller shell with no re-rings. I stained it a dark walnut color, and put a few layers of low gloss poly on it for good protection, but it has a more period correct varnish look. The hoops are natural maple. I used single end tube lugs with claw hooks. I did my own tack pattern, similar to the ones found on rope drums, just because it looks cool! I put a Fiberskyn head on the batter side, and a hazy emperor for the snare side. It has gold cable snares for a gut snare sound. Wight is a factor, so I opted for a chrome P-85, which looks good on it, being a side throw, and lighter weight than more modern throw offs. It has a chrome carry hook for a web sling. It is reasonably loud, so I put a strip of white felt under the batter to keep overtones under control. This baby really sings!

Wonderful looking snare. I do like me a good walnut finish; good job on staining that.
