Default Fixing hi hat pedal (still!)

Okay, so i've found out what the problem with my hi hat pedal is (see previous thread). Basically when I push down with my finger on the variable resistor the closed hi hat chick sound is produced. However, when i push down with the pedal it isn't. It seems to be that the pedal isn't actually contacting the resistor. I am wondering what material i should attach to the metal leaver so the hi hat chick is consistently produced? Many thanks,
