Default Roland FD-8 smooth open-closed transition (with Roland TD-3) question

Hello everyone.
I've bought Roland FD-8 hihat controller recently and have a problem with it.
I was hoping for a 'trully smooth' open-closed hihat transition with several different sounds but all I get is 3 sounds - open-semi closed (which sounds unnaturally imo)-closed.
I even tried to use it in Addictive Drums: http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/6668/hihatf.jpg but cant really configure it to more than 2 sounds... in the pic you can see that there are more separated areas in hihat configuration... strange.
Btw; I'm connecting hihat controler with module with Roland stereo cable.

So my question is: I have Roland TD-3 module - is it because of the module which cant handle multiple hihat sounds or it's just that I dont know how to configure it properly? If so - can you provide me some tips of doing it?

Thanks in advance for the answer!
