I don't think any Stagg cymbals are going to sound like Zildjians.

Stagg cymbals are less than half of the price of Zildjian cymbals depending on models. If that is your budget I would suggest trying to find some Zildjian used hats. You can find some great deals online if you are patient. I feel that you would be disappointed in the Stagg before long and be looking again.

You can always try to get those Zildjian hihats used and thus, save some money. Although good cymbals do hold their value well and won't be too cheap even used.

I edited your thread title (making everything clearer and summing it all up in the title already, as I understood your question) and also moved the thread into the Cymbals section - I hope you don't mind.

Welcome to the forum!

I agree with everyone here that New Beats are New Beats, and if you want them, get them. Having said that though, if you are in a store with Staggs in them, try out the "Classic" series. You just might leave the store with one.

I have used the classic series on another drummer's kit, and was pleasantly surprised. If the Staggs are what is available to you and you can afford, there are worse choices than the classic series. They can sound quite good for the coin.

My local shop carries a decent selection of Stagg cymbals and im impressed by them. Gotta dig through a few to find the "right" cymbals to your ears, but they can definitely sound good IMO.

Cant really answer your question though. Id try the SH and classic models first though.

Wow this site is fixated on new beats!

I say if you genuinely love that sound (and not because everyone posts about them) then just buy new beats.

I think cheap hats can be as good as pro ones so just buy with your ears.

Drummers have been fixated on New Beats long before the invention of this site mate.

Along with Supraphonics, New Beats built their reputation as being consummate workhorses a hell of a long time ago. I reckon it ultimately just comes down to versatility. They just work so well across a broad range of applications.

As John Laws would say......when you're on a good thing, stick with it.

New Beats can be bought used at the same price you might buy Stagg hi hats for new. Get the New Beats.

I'm fixated on New Beats - LOL

I'm also in the camp of " If you can't afford new 13" A New Beats, look for them used."

I kind of think that if you get Stagg hats, you'll still want New Beats, and eventually end up getting them anywyas.

Ditto. Keep looking. It might take a while, but you never can tell. Last year I picked up a set of 13" K/Z hats for $100 on top of a bunch of miscellaneous stands and parts, used.So it's completely possible.

Buy once and buy right. If you like the new beats, save the money till you find a decent used set. In the long run it's cheaper than buying the staggs then upgrading later.

Keep an eye out on ebay.

The 13's have no sound when closed at about the 20 -25 second mark.

Try Stagg, you seem to be keen.

I have a large selection of Stagg cymbals I bought to practise on. The quality is greater than what you might expect.

I believe they bought Zildjian's old press.

I wouldn't trust these videos. The mixing is very uneven and the EQ of the hats is very weird.

I'd advise you to take your time and playtest as many cymabals as you can get your hands on. Check out those of your friends, and those in as many stores as you can visit. That's what I did before I got each of my cymbals. That's why all my cymbals have been keepers.

Why the hesitation...just buy USED New Beats for around 100-150 used. The staggs are almost double that.

Check Ebay or CL.New Beats go for MUCH less than the Staggs every day.As has been said...buy once....buy right.
