Default Quick Question: Reading SKB Sizes?

Hey there!

Real quick question:

I've got a PDP x7 kit. Sizes listed here: http://www.pacificdrums.com/drums/x7/

I want to buy SKB cases today off MusiciansFriend. Here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/drums...44613000000687

But for the life of me, I can't figure out which measurement is the diameter and which is the depth.

Can someone help clarify for me which cases I should be looking at, based on the sizes of the x7 shells?

Thanks!!

EDIT: MF sells a 22x18 case. Will that fit my 18 depth x 22 diameter kick?

Yes mate, it'll fit. Looks like the MF specs have been "de-Yankifed" so the they're reading diam x depth, instead of that arse about way you guys normally write the thing. :-)

SKB doesn't sell stock drum cases where the depth is greater than the diameter. You should be good.

PFOG: Don't let a few choice idiots represent all of the "Yanks" to you. If I knew who came up with the ridiculously stupid "depth x diameter" idea, believe me--I would have words with them...

What? You tell me you have a 12x8 tom and I'm picturing a 8" head with a 12" tube!

Listing drums as diameter x depth is a fairly recent thing (maybe 10 years or so) for most companies. From the time I started playing drums in the mid-80s, pretty much all drum company literature, Modern Drummer magazine (including all of their buyer's guide issues), music store ads, etc., listed drums in depth x diameter (8x12, 16x22, and so on). It wasn't until the early 2000s that people started doing it the other way.

It's like how people use words incorrectly, and then it becomes the norm, like "swag". Or like all this texting shorthand and misspellings that are catching on... "teh", "lols" (luls, lawls), "pron", etc. Pretty soon, those too will become the norm.

Sometimes people like to do things differently just for the sake of being different. Then it screws up everything for those of us who are already used to doing things the original way. Then WE'RE the dumb ones for doing things that original way.

Not in this part of the world. Diam v depth was always how it was when I was growing up and only with the global community of the internet have things swung the other way.

Regardless, "original" way or not, given that one measurement is by far more important than the other it's still arse about. I mean, how often have you ever asked for a head for your 8 inch deep tom? :-)

Well then... Just leave it to us Americans to give the middle finger to the standard for no good reason. Just like our completely illogical measurement systems. It's still annoying that, now, everyone over here looks at me like I just escaped from a mental institution any time I talk about drums as depth x diameter. I mean, after that way being the norm for like the first 20 years of my drumming life, it's just second nature now. Using diameter x depth feels like wiping with my left hand.

Ah, God bless America mate. Thumbing it's nose at standardised drum measurements since 1776.

No fear, you'll only ever get yourselves a little bit pregnant......it'll be a cold day in hell before you guys adopt the metric system.
