Default would you do this to your pearl masters

Was at Sam ash looking to spend a gift card, Walked in the cymbal room and this young 20's age kid walks in with is dad, he'd been talking to the "experts" at the drum counter before I got there. Heard him talking about too much ring on his snare and he had some moon gel in his hand. I mentioned the other cheaper alternative using the sticky hands you get at the $1 store. he said thanks and kept looking. He was then telling his dad the "guy behind the counter" said to take the top head off and tape a small towel to the underside then put it back on. :-o What????????????????? I said what kind of snare is it, he said it's a new masters snare that I just got, it rings too much. I said you might just consider a different head that has damping built in like a PS3 or the Evans dry series.

He left with the moon gel and I have this horrible feeling he's going home and taping a towel to the underside of his batter head and putting the moon gel on top. Might as well be playing a card board box if you are doing that to a drum!
"how are you living your Dash?"

I've done the napkin and tape on top before, not an entire towel.

I guess that would work if you want to quiet your kit for practice reason.

I guess you have to ask yourself, would you rather hear a Masters snare that's tuned awfully and rings like a trumpet? Or one that doesn't ring at all? :)

reminds me of the kids (and adults!) who put duct tape on their reso heads... gross!
