Default Coated Remo Ambassador X's over Coated Ambassadors?

Hey guys, I'm currently buying a Gretsch 5 piece Energy kit, which has 10", 12", and 16" inch toms, and a 14" inch snare, all made of 100% poplar. And I was also going to buy new heads with it, because stock heads are usualy crappy. And before I've always used suede emperors as batter heads and clear ambassadors as reso heads, but I wanted to try something else out, so I had figure I'd try coated Ambassador X heads as batters on my toms, and I'd get a free 14" inch, so my snare too, and then I wanted to try using coated ambassadors as reso heads for my toms, then ofcourse a clear snare side for the snare.

Does anybody know how this would sound?

Thanks guys,

Pretty warm and full. Those thick one ply heads are real amazing on top - a full warm sound with great attack. The coated reso will cut overtones and sustain, giving you a pretty dry and warm sound.

I go back and fourth between Ambassador X's and clear Emperors on my Oak Customs. I love the X's. Great sounding heads, I use the clear Ambassadors for the reso. The X's on my Ludwirg 402 Supraphonic sounded great as well. I'm sure the coated Ambassador would work well on the reso.

I first time tried a coated X on my snare last week. I really like it.
I know that I would like it on a tom.
If I was going to use coated underneath I would use a coated Diplomat.
That will give you punchy warmth with some liveliness.
I kind of like old drums:)
