Default Computer lags when I play drums next to it

Hi guys
My laptop lags with playing music when i play drums next to it, not all the time but enough to mess up a song! So since I was wondering if anyone has any sort of info about what I can do here, please let me know since i want to use it soon for sampling live.

Thanks

We need a bit more information.

What kind of system are you using? Are you monitoring with microphones and headphones? How far are the drums from the computer? Are you simply playing back music and playing along without any inputs into the computer? What software are you using?

It could be a number of things from latency (likely) or that the drums are interfering with the HDD (more unlikely).

Well its a I5 with 4 gigs ram. I use in ear monitors which are connected to a small mixer where I receive everything from the mixing desk. Well at the moment I am just playing with the music on my laptop and just using windows media player.

My brother said I should maybe put a big mouse pad underneath the laptop to help against all the vibrations?

It could very well be vibrations from your drums. It sounds as if the spec would be up to it and you shouldn't have any issues with latency because you're not actually putting any input into the machine!

My advice is to isolate it from vibration as much as possible. A mousemat might work but the best (cheap) solution I know of is a pair of floor tiles with non-slip matting between them. That's used all the time for acoustically decoupling speakers from worktops and should work with your laptop.

Had a problem just like that recording 8 channels (drums) into and interface (tascam us1800). Put a pillow under the laptop and a blanket folded in a bunch: problem solved.

It may be possible that you're jostling the hard drive (or the optical drive, if you're playing from a cd, which I doubt).
