Remo ebony pinstripe or clear pinstripe

I know some people have described that the pinstripes are 'thuddy'. But what is the point of the "Ebony"? What does it change soundwise?

Ebony Pinstripes are a 5mil and 10mil ply, but that's not super far off from the clear Pinstripes' two 7mil plies especially with the muffling applied. General consensus seems to be that the Ebony film will make that version even more dead/muffled. If you're already in for Pinstripes, though, I'd probably just get whichever you think looks better.

The black film has different sound characteristics. Not worse or better than clear, just different.

they will also leave black marks on your sticks, that then transfer to your cymbals and its hard to clean.

trust me...go clear.
