I once read an interview with Ian Paice where they asked him:

"Now that we have drum machines, are drummers' days numbered?"

He replied: "Yes - in millions".

Just because usher and madonna gigs rely mainly on electronic drums, oasis and muse gigs don't; and who cares about madonna or usher? Live drumming may not be essential to the most popular 1% of artists in the world, but it is used by a huge number of the rest.

You do make a good point though, so much music is already electronic, and even what is played by a real person is triggering sampled sounds, and/or the tracks are emailed from the drummers house.
People have been playing like drum machines since the 70's. Haven't you heard of the Scorpions?

Music has gone electronic ever since the 70's, as well. If 'organic' music was doomed, it would have been died in the 80's or 90's.

Guess what? It's the late 00's and I still hear human musicians. Of course it's not the super mainstream crap that everybody at my school likes, but there will always be natural, organic music.
