Guys,
I've been playing metal and rock for about 10 years.
Have always had a habit of going as fast as I can most of the time. Lately have mellowed out a bit and tried to get more 'groove', playing a lot more rocky, funky, jazzy stuff.
Today I'm getting annoyed at my drumming, feeling like I am 'inconsistent'. By that I mean imperfect, timing fluctuations, inconsistent hit velocity and too many off centre hits.
I've been practicing and recording one of my metal bands uber difficult, super changey songs, and these are songs that I've been playing for hours every week for two years, and I'm still hearing a lot of inconsistencies in my playing.
Obviously practicing the songs at speed over and over again for years isn't enough...
I'm getting the feeling I need to slow down, practice simple slow stuff to a metronome for an hour a day. But before I start spending a lot of time doing that I want to get some ideas from you guys so I can be confident that I'm doing the right kind of practice to gain more consistency.
So, what are some of the most important exercises I should spend my time doing?
