snare overtones >:(

Trying to get people to listen to this point is nigh on impossible. The idea that the way a drum sounds is down to the way it is played is a step too far for many.

Would'nt you assume that he his hitting it one time in the middle of the head and getting a ring?? What makes you think he is not hitting it right? Just curious

But there's more than one way to hit the drum in the middle of the head. The sweet spot where ring is minimal is not especially in the very center of the drum; it takes experience of the drum to hit it consistently. Is he playing a rimshot or not? Is he killing the rebound to hold the stick into the head or not? Good consistent technique is what makes a good drummer able to make an otherwise crappy piece of gear sound good. A guy with bad technique could hit a top line drum or cymbal and make it sound bad. Think back to being a beginner....
