Default Anyone play bass/know about basses?

Hey guys, I'm going to start playing bass and I was wondering if anyone knew about samick basses. I know they're not great but are they any good for beginners?

I don't know the brand but if it's a cheapie the action might be tough. That's a big thing for beginners because bass is hard on your fingers anyway.

I do know a thing or two. I've played bass for 32 years!

Samick is not a commonly known make but that shouldn't put you off. There are tons of reviews here:

http://reviews.harmony-central.com/r...s/brand/Samick

I have not played a Sammick so I have no personal anecdotes for you.

You could also go to talkbass.com and hang out there, there are a zillion bassists there to help. Or if you want a more intimate forum you could try: musicplayer.com, which is where I hang.

Regardless of make, the bass should feel right in your hands. The neck shouldn't dive to the ground, the action should be med/low and if it isn't chuck it back and get another. If the shop can't set up their basses properly go somewhere else.

The controls should not be scratchy and should be silent when plugged in. Nothing should rattle and the sound.

Well that's where it get's interesting. But if you've only been playing a short while then maybe you're not sure what tone you are after.

Peace
Davo

I have played Samick instruments before, they're not PRO quality, but for the most part they are more than good enough to learn on.

Most of the cheaper instruments today are made on computer driven machinery, which makes for MUCH better tolerances in workmanship and better playability at lower cost.
