Floor Tom Conversion Questions

I am interested in buying a floor tom conversion kit to convert my Mapex Saturns into a more portable kit for some gigs. Do conversion kits damage the drums at all? I usually mic the kick inside it- will porting the reso on the floor tom mess up the sound when I am using it as a floor tom and not a bass drum? Should I change heads everytime I convert so that I don't damage the floor tom batter head when I am using it as a kick (or should I put a kick pad on it, but then it will be there when its just a floor tom)

The Dunnett/Gibraltar R-Class Club Conversion http://musical-instruments.pricegrabber.com/drums-percussion-accessories/m/61115433/ is the one I would choose. Very sano...and I don't think it would/will harm the floor at all. As far as porting an 18" reso., try it and see. Personally, I would run a different batter and reso. on a floor tom, than a kick.....so I'd be changing both heads. No big deal. 10 minutes. Tops. Done.
