Am I suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

I would say that having a pain in my hand sometimes due to work as an accountant and in front of computer is normal. But when I had the tingling fingers, numbness feel the weakness of my hands, I’m starting to believe there is something that is not normal. In fact, I drop the pen I hold sometimes. I heard about the carpal tunnel syndrome. Do I have that condition? If so, then how true that Yoga can help treat carpal tunnel syndrome?
How can I deal with that? This is Mathew Moyer, new member here. Hope you can help me.
Thanks and your responses are highly appreciated.

Hey-

cant speak to the hand condition but I would not have my address in my location (edit your personal info to fix this) on the internet- if that is your address..

Likely, especially if the little finger feels normal. Go to neurologist who will give you a nerve conduction test. The only effective remedy that I've found is surgery.

I've had surgery on both my wrists and the symptoms you describe could be CTS, but you need to get it checked out properly, as it will only get worse. they may offer you steroid injections- don't do it, as you will probably need surgery anyway if it is severe and the injections make it much more difficult to do the surgery- don't know why, I'm not a doctor, but that's what my surgeon told me.

The symptoms will affect the middle 2 fingers of your hand more than the others. Look for numbness and pins and needles feeling at the tips and aching pains that wake you in the night and having to sleep with your affected arm hanging down from the bed to get some relief.

If you need surgery, get it fast as the longer you have the condition untreated, the less likely your symptoms are to resolve following surgery. Unfortunately, I still have some residual sensation loss in my right hand, although it doesn't affect my playing, because I'm simply not that good for it to affect me! The relief following the surgery was almost immediate though and I would have it done again tomorrow as the benefits far outweighed the risks.

Most carpal tunnel really isn't what you think it is. Doctors are mostly clueless and only know how to cut, burn and give you drugs. Check this out. Sorry about your condition, but I've stopped going to doctors or hospitals years ago. It could have been perhaps corrected through muscle therapy. Try a diffrent approach for the new year. Good luck.

Well...I tried all the alternate stuff, the cats paw, chiropractors, yoga and then finally accepted the fact that I was in denial. Had the surgery 5 years ago with 100% recovery.

See the neurologist.

I'm with you Conchrandy- as I said the longer you wait the more damage you'll do.

definitely get it checked out, you would hate to have to stop drumming!

good luck.

I can’t enlighten you with some to the point fact. But I think that would be because of weak nervous system that could due to some stirred mental state of yours. I am having this condition of trembling hands since two or three years, haven’t seen a doc yet. No you please don’t take any inspiration from me and visit a doc ASAP.

Flextend glove. Saved my wrist, thumb. I was at a point where I couldn't play guitar. I have saved thousands of dollars being sucked into the corrupt medical system, co-pays, parking, specialists, MRI's all thanks to a little glove.

Flextend Glove. Best $150 I ever spent. Google it, learn the principles behind why it works.

As an experienced hand therapist, it sounds like you have some of the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). First of all, see a doctor to get a proper diagnosis, and rule out symptoms coming from other locations (i.e. your neck). The earlier you recognize it and treat it, the faster your recovery.
If you are diagnosed with CTS, check out our website at www.TreatYourselfTherapy.com/carpal-tunnel. We have a 70 minute education and exercise video specifically for CTS, so you can treat yourself at your convenience. In the meantime, try the following tips:
1. Put a cold pack in a pillowcase, and place it on your wrists for 10 minutes several times a day.
2. When you are at your computer, take a rest break and shake your hands out every 20 minutes.
3. Your wrists should be in a straight position when you are at your computer. You don't want to see any wrinkles at your wrist!
4. Keep your grip and pinch light, especially on your drum sticks.
Good Luck!

With all due respect for alternative treatments, you can get instant relief from surgery. Minimally invasive, go home same day w/o CTS.

I have a different problem I think, I had a motorcycle accident 5 or 6 years ago. My scaphoid was broken in my right wirst, and since it was never the same again. I can't 'feel' my hand the way I used to, it's extremely troublesome for drumming.
The thing is that it depends of how much sleep I can get and how fit I feel. Some days, it's almost like I got my skills back, but never at 100%. The closest I ever got was maybe 75%, and it happened maybe 2 or 3 days since the accident.

Anyone could help me about this?

unless you have an extremely severe case surgery is absolutely not necessary

there are treatments that will keep it completely under control to the point where you will almost forget you have it

find a good chiropractor and get treatment

I havent felt mine in the slightest for over 2 years

Go see a doctor, its always best to find out what you have from a professional.
With that said, don't rush in to any surgery. I have mild CTS and several treatments of physical therapy almost completely fixed it. I will do some more treatments and it will probably go away completely.
Surgery is only for severe cases that cannot be fixed in any other way.

Your hand symptoms my be related to those of carpal tunnel syndrome. Many musicians and others who perform repetitive hand activities are susceptible. I am a chiropractic Hand Expert and have treated thousands of patients' hands and wrists over the past 15 years with stellar results. I would not recommend visiting just any chiropractor, rather you'll want to locate one who truly specializes in treating wrists and hands.
The carpal tunnel is a tiny passageway within your wrist. It is made up 8 bones which are arranged into a horseshoe shape (forming 3 sides of the carpal tunnel) and a ligament that spans across the ends of the horseshoe of bones. This ligament is the exact one they sever when performing carpal tunnel syndrome.
Due to repetitive movements of the wrist/hand those 8 tiny carpal bones commonly lose their healthy alignment and as a result they cause pressure on a large nerve (median nerve) which passes through the tunnel. This pressure due to the misaligned bones casues the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Surgery is certainly an option - however beware of the risks. I've known a handful (no pun intended) of people who either had their nerve cut or other permanent side effects from the surgery. Finding a chiropractic hand expert may be a challenge as there are not too many of them. Feel free to visit my website as a resource.
I wish you well with your hands.

although there are some test to determine carple tunnel, the numbness in the hands can also be a neck/spinal issue. I have a steel plate in my neck, it started with severe buring in my ring and pinky fingers and total numbness at night during sleep. the surgery fixed the problem, but my hands still go numb if I fall asleep on my back. see your doctor as soon as possible. hope it's just a temporary thing.

Yes, I know this is an old thread.

Just want to point out that tingling and numbness in the hands and fingers can be from things other than CTS.

Compression in the neck, shoulders, and elbows can cause tingling and numbness in the extremities. Poor circulation can cause tingling and numbness in the extremities. Osteoarthritis can cause tingling and numbness in the extremities. Nerve damage can cause tingling and numbness in the extremities. Peripheral neuropathy can cause tingling and numbness in the extremities. Bad posture can cause tingling and numbness in the extremities. So many other things can too.

CTS is not always the answer, even if we are more susceptible to it.

I had violent car wreck resulting in the collar bone pushing on the Brachial plexus. Numbness in pinky and ring finger. Strength training to correct drooping shoulder on that side.
