Preventing hardware pitting by storing drums/stands?

Hey all. I live/rehearse/play out often right on the Jersey shore. My house/rehearsal space/regular gigs are all within a mile of the ocean. Would storing my drums/hardware in bags prevent pitting/rust over time? I'm have a new kit on the way, and am probably going to chip away at replacing my entire fleet of hardware over the next couple months. Just wanted to see if I could minimize the effect of the salt water in the air over time. Anyone have any input...?

Storing is good, but keeping them clean is better. I have friends who live by the beach here in California and they have found that if they just wipe them down everynight after an outside gig, the stainless steel pretty much stays good. Maybe once a month they'll actually clean the hardware using a mild metal polish. But what you'd want to do is keep the salts from sitting on the metal for too long a time to begin with. And a good, thorough wipe down every couple of days would go a long way to prevent rust from happening.

I don't live by the ocean any longer, but secret weapon against rust/pitting is Pledge. I carry a can in my bag and wipe down the kit with it before every gig. Makes everything shine and protects, too.

Dust is chrome's worst enemy because dust settles on the chrome and then allows moisture to reisde in it and is what causes most pitting. Kep your chrome clean from dust.

I wax everything. Everything! I am on the coast in CT and my kits live in a slightly damp basement. Meguires gold class liquid wax on every bit of chrome and my shells. I do it about once a year or whenever I have something apart. I also have a dehumidifier running in the summer.
