How do you start your show?

I'm new here but playing for over 40 years. Thirty+ in public. To me, it really depends on the venue. If your there for "music" then a roll in without any fanfare is perfectly appropriate. Then an introduction after a song or two. If everyone is there specifically to see you then a hell-raising intro may be the recipe for success. Many new players I see are still nervous enough when opening that they don't want any "watch me" stress.

ALWAYS good advice, even during rehearsals. (And Grateful Dead songs!)

Exactly - appropriate, but there should always be attention paid to the start of the show, even if it's walk on & play.
