Mapex Saturn tom mount.

I want to mount the toms from a Mapex Saturn on stands, rather than the bass drum. Does anyone know where I can get stands the the ones this guy uses in this thread?

http://www.drumchat.com/showthread.php/buh-bye-tom-mount-17842.html

I know about the Mapex TH684 holder, but where can I just get the legs/bottom of a stand to mount it on? I also would not like the 200 dollar Mapex stand /w the cymbal holder, as I need 2 stands, and 400 dollars is outrageous for 2 stands.

Those are standard single tom/cymbal stands. Gibraltar, Pearl, dw, Tama, Ludwig, You name the hardware manufacturer and they make those stands.
Common stuff on any musicians site or in any muso store.
Find them used on eBay and Craig's too.
A simple clamp and a cymbal stand will work with the tom holders that came with your Mapex kit.

It's a bit hard to tell but they might be regular cymbal stands, cymbal arm taken out, TH684 inserted into base and then cymbal arm and tom arm mounted on TH684. Have you tried putting your TH684 into your regular cymbal stands? Have a go, they might fit.

If you've already got 2 cymbal stands setup either side of your bass you could just get 2 clamps and put your tom arms in those.

Looking at the photo, I see that the stand ONLY holds the tom. Not a cymbal as well. I'm not sure if I misunderstood you. I'd be honored if you sent me a link to one that has Saturn sized L-rods.

Buy a clamp like this and clamp your Mapex tom holders to a cymbal stand that you already own.
Cost will be about $20 USD

Saturns take Hex L-rods, so would 2 Gibraltar Hex L-Rod Ultra-Adjust Tom Arms work, mounted from cymbal stands with 2 Tama MC62 Multi-Clamps?

Yes, Round ones will also work in place of the hex. You have to buy the correct 10 mm diameter and not the 12 mm one.

Here is a Mapex hex tom holder that I clamped with a round one.

While on the subject... I have a Saturn kit also and am in the process of revamping my H/W setup and gonna get DW 3900 tom stands.. from what I remember/can tell, the DW L-rods look a bit thicker than others....

Does anyone know if the standard DW L-rods work fine with the Saturn tom's mount or will I have to get the smaller-diameter L-rod that DW offers?

The Mapex hex-rods are approximately 10.5mm and so Tama or PDP L-Rods will work with Mapex mounts. The default DW L-rods are 12.7mm and will not work.

I am not aware of any ball-style L-rods that DW makes in 10.5 mm. However, the PDP tom stands should work.

And of course, Mapex makes many double tom stands. Couldn't go wrong there.

If you simply want a tom stand to fit your existing tom arms into, try this: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=productsearch&cd=5&cad=rja&docid=15218511965213828254&ved=0CGQQgwgwBA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.interstatemusic.com%2F54636-Gibraltar-9613PM-Adjustable-3-Mount-Platform-Tom-Stand-9613PM.aspx%3Fsku%3DSS182PM%26source%3DGoogle%2BBase_CASCIO%26source%3DGoogle%2BBase_Cascio%26utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dproduct%26utm_campaign%3Dgbase&ei=NZ8yUJiuKKvFiwKjmYDoCA&usg=AFQjCNENM4CAbA3XCabExseiDkjuq7Wmmw

Thanks for that, I forgot Gibraltar had that stand!

And yes, DW does make a 10.5mm L-arm, ironically for PDP gear. I would assume this'll work for the Mapex.
