Best materials and methods for cleaning gold plated hardware?

I have a Pearl Reference snare drum with gold hw that I'm looking to clean up and sell. I've searched and can't believe I've not found a single thread pertaining to the subject. If I missed it, link please. Otherwise, anyone have experience here? And feel free to PM if you think you might be interested in a 13"x6.5" Ref soon.

Right, I'm going to need some kind of solution though, the tarnish is a bit much for just a wipe down. Any recommended gold cleaners?

If its lacquered and the lacquer is coming off that's an ugly thing.

Gold won't tarnish, it'll get a film of grime, but that should rag off.

I've used this b/f on gold plated hardware.

Well yeah, I guess tarnish isn't the right terminology, I just didn't know what else to call it. Plastic polish eh? No issues down the road I presume?

Gold is pretty bullet proof, the problem- its plated so thin that polishing a lot is detrimental, so is traveling in bags, the bags will eventually wear the plating off.
