How many drum kits have you owned?

Kits of yore:
1980s CB700 (13/14/16/18/24 +14/16 concert toms) - GREAT KIT!
mid-80s Ludwig Classics (6/8/10/12/13/14/15/16/18/24/24 w/8x14 colleseum snare)

Current:
late-70s Ludwig Classics (12/13/14/16/18/22) - I only use 13/16/18/22
5x12 Pork Pie Snare (US made one)
5x14 1970 Ludwig Supra

I do not plan on ever buying any more drums. What I have covers anything I will play. All I plan on buying is new heads and maybe a couple of cymbals. I do add to my array of hand percussion instruments. That's more 'fun' overall than regular drums because it's much easier to teach and share with people.

This is like asking how many ex girlfriends or ex boyfriends someone has had. They always start out with someone iffy, then the list becomes very flashy, and eventually becomes something more stable, and you always leave one or two out that you dont want to admit to.Haha!!

I never sold my old girlfriends to get a new one though. ;-))

I have two kits. A yamaha I've played for 27 years and just got a DW Performance series 2 months ago. I'm 39 years old

Tama Starclassic Performer B/B in Lava Sparkle 10/12/16/22
14x5.5 Sonor Force maple snare
12x5 Sonor 3000 maple snare (which was awesome!)

Ludwig Black Magic snare

Black Panther Black Widow snare 14x5 all maple
Dunnett 14x6.5 Koa over Carbon Fibre snare

I have some other bits and bobs lying about, but nothing of any note, or that gets a lot of use!!!

Oh I'm 26 now, and except for the Rogers, have bought all kits in the last 8 years. Totally happy with my setup now.

this started as a Rogers Holiday BMP kit, i was a kid, what did I know?

so this is what my first kit ended up being, Damn you Neil Peart! ;-)

then I moved onto Granstar Customs, to bad they were power toms, but that was the in thing.

Then the Artstar II Kit, again power toms, sorry, best pic I have

Artstar_II.jpg

in 2000 I sold the TAMA kit to get this, I wanted to get away from power toms

I wish i had those Artstars now, I would cut them down to standard or fast sizes.

You know that Tama makes shorter toms also. :) My buddy had his 80's Superstar kit cut down to todays sizes. He now drives a Tama elite.

First new kit Rogers 1958 blue sparkle, till 93 then premier, then pearl, then many mapex sets and now Crush kit and WOW what a great kit for the money. Because of my old age 70 I have the ash kit 22" base drum and I can pick it up over my head, couldn,t do that with mapex kits. Don,t laugh playing is one thing but loading and set up is all part of the gig. I have changed all the heads but WOW what a great sound and it,s all black in color and lots of nice things from other musicans about the kit , so this was a good change for me . jz.

First kit, beat up slingerland 3 piece with a reuter snare, no bottom heads
Later added two tama superstars, kick and floor
Added two gretsch toms to that for a 12, 13, 16, 22

Lite graphite 10, 12, 13, 14, 15 22
Delite 20, 10, 12, 14, 16
phonic plus, 24, 12, 13, 15, 18
hi tech 10, 12, 13, 16, 22

I am 36 years old, just started drumming and have owned 2 kits. First kit, A Ludwig Pinnacle full set, yes the cheap cymbals were included, then I decided to go to a pearlescent white PDP X7 Maple Kit. I love this kit. I took off the cheap Remo UK heads and put on Evans EC2 heads and an Evans EMAD batter on the bass.

First kit owned but trying to sell at the moment is an all white Yamaha Power V 8" (custom), 12", 13", 16" 22" and 14" snare.
I also have a Roland TD12K electronic kit and most recently i now have a Ludwig Epic pro beat in natural/black burst and vintage hardware 10", 12" 14" 16", 24" and 14" main snare and 10" side snare. Hoping to get an 8" tom for that kit too

Early 60's Trixon, blue sparkle. All the drum shells were tapered w/big batter head to small reso head. I didn't care for it much at the time because it didn't seem cool, in fact kind of embarrassing as I remember. Was way different than anything else out there and as a teenager you just wanted to fit in, but I learned more on that drum than all others. My brother still owns this kit and I think the cool factor is back.
Some late 60's-early 70's Japan off brand Slingerland knock-off copy, 6 piece w/dual 20 inch bass drums. I got real good at dual bass before the pedals took over.
90's Yamaha Rock Tour Custom, black sparkle
1984 Yamaha Recording Custom, cherrywood, fusion sizes 8,10,12,14,16,22
1986 Yamaha Recording Custom, cherrywood, standard depths, 12,13,16,22 w/matching 6.5 x14 snare. I guess one RC isn't enough.
Other Snares
1967 Ludwig wood snare 5x14
80's Yamaha steel snare 5x14
Yamaha Paul Leim brass snare 5.5x14
All were purchased used and still own all but the first 2, so I had 5 total sets

I currently own 4, 3x acoustic 1x electric

I started with a Cosmic Percussion 5 piece kit with power toms. Gave those away to a friend when I bought my 7 piece Pearl Export in 1991. Then I bought a used 4 Piece Ayotte Custom kit with no snare and gave the Pearl kit to my brother minus the 8X8 and 10X10 toms which I added to the Ayotte. Bought a bunch of snares after that.

1) Now I own the Ayotte kit and the following kits:

2) 5 Piece Sonor Force 3002 kit with an extra 10X10 Pearl Master Custom series I added. I have to have something around the house for less experienced drummers to bang on. You guys know what I mean right?

3) 7 Piece 1990's Collector Series DW with gold hardware.

4) 7 Piece Nobel & Cooley Horizon Series kit.

5) 6 piece Noble & Cooley STAR Series steam bent single ply kit (all single ply except the bass drum and 16 Floor Tom which are Horizon because Noble & Cooley doesn't steam bend drums that size).

6) 7 Piece 1951 Slingerlad Radio King kit with the matching 6" and 8" bongos.

7) 7 Piece 1968 Ludwig 3 Ply maple clear interior kit

8) Many additional snares mostly wood but also three brass snares.

9) Over 100 vintage cymbals.

10) Insurance on the above.

11) Alarm system with motion detection.

12) Several firearms and a willingness to shoot first and ask questions later if something goes bump in the night.

Owned by me..

1) First kit: "Linko". - (No-name, used, beat-up, cheap kit)
2) Pearl Forum
3) Mapex Meridian Birch
4) PDP FS Birch
