Congratulations on the aax Omni. I have one and I really like it. The crash sound doesn't really go with my other cymbals very well so I use it sparingly for accents and stuff

I have been using fewer and fewer cymbals as time goes on, and I have been playing more music where I need a crashable ride. My main ride is a 20" K Custom - a wonderful, wonderful ride but about as crashable as a car door. I'm rehearsing with it tomorrow and gigging it on Saturday - I'll let you know. And the HHX Omni has me intrigued.

A crash-able ride and one other crash is why I bought my omni. Funny thing is, it didn't fit in with the band's music, so I took it back and bought a 20" Sabian AAX ISO cash as a crash ride. Which worked great with that band. but I still loved the Omni. About six months later it was still in the store, I had some money so I bought it again. lol. I have a 20 K also and it's a great ride but no crashing. With the Omni you can get about 3 ride sounds, depending where you play on it. Washy,(in the lathed area) kind of dry, (in the unlathed area) and kind of a high pitched ping, up closer to the bell. They are great.

Great pickup, these are the most musically pleasing swish cymbals I have ever heard. I first heard one last year at DCP. Just a beautiful sound. I find most swish and china cymbals too gongy sounding and harsh. The Masters Swish and the Paiste Traditional Medium Light swish being the exceptions.

Thanks, RP!

I was hesitant to close the sale at first, considering my cymbal series setup is 2002, but after coming across Rob Brown's review, I was sold, and the cymbal dovetails in seamlessly with my 2002's.

Was looking for a new wood snare, was all over the place trying to decide. Wanted something nice but not break the bank. I found this and pulled the trigger off eBay. Any of you ever heard of Shug Drum Company? SDC

Big and Bossy 6.5x14 Keller Maple snare drum. 9 ply VSS Magnum Series shell. Dual 45 west coast bearing edges. 2.3mm hoops. 10 aluminum lugs. Gaskets and nylon washers at all contact points. Puresound equalizer wires with grosgrain straps (the best). Classic Strata Red/Black finish (not a wrap)

Any feedback is always appreciated.

So this is rather different for me. While I find many SJC Drums to be hideous, their barbershop wrapped finishes appeal to me. Sweetwater had a yellow tag sale for select drums so I took a chance on this one.

7x14 USA custom with 3.0 flanged hoops and satin hardware. Came with a 2-ply Evans G2 batter. Not normally my cup of tea for snares but it seems to work well here. Plenty of volume, killer rimshots and focused, with very controlled overtones, probably because of the two ply head. Nice tone, and different from my other 25 snares. Not the most sensitive. Great rock/backbeat snare. Proprietary strainer isnít especially smooth but itís functional. Believe SJC is still using Keller shells but that is supposedly about to change. Someone spent a lot of time getting these strips of wrap to align just so.

That's a good looking Snare Drum there steadypocket. Got this Demo set of Paiste Formula 602 15in ME's at a great price from Sweetwater also. Could never justify the reg price on these, but they are amazing Hi Hat's. Bright yet mellow, easy on the ear's, musical and about the same weight as my 14in New Beat's so they are very responsive. Already have a 17in Sig Fast crash and a 19in Full Sig, plan is to eventually get a 22in Giant Beat and that will be my set of Paiste that will hang out with my Walnut Renown's.

That's some nice looking wood there. I'm wondering where they found the two foot tension rods 😆. Seriously though, sweet kit!

Make it happen, JB. You will not regret it. The sound is extraordinaire. It's one of those cymbals you can ride and crash on, while enjoying the rich sound of a China/Swish. It truly is the most musical cymbal I have ever played.

Great snares. Mine is my main snare. I just picked up an Evans UV1 for it (my first try on this head, hope Ben was right!) (EDIT: Love it!)

I bought a Gretsch yesterday! 1981 stop sign badge: 14x10, 16x16, 18x18, 24x14 and a Gold Series bell brass snare. My dad and I had a booth for Corvettes at Carlisle this weekend and I found this kit on craigslist in West Virginia for a price I couldn't pass up, so I made a point to take the long way home. They're going to get some fresh heads and a little polishing tonight.

Does anyone have any recommendations for some spurs for this kick? It has two wimpy things that go through the shell on the batter side, and one vertical spike on the front hoop, and I really just don't trust it.

Swap heads and put the wimpy thing on the reso side. With the pedal in the back and the spurs in front it shouldn't move. I assume the bass drum is vrigin.

The kick has a tom mount on the top, but I didn't get the tom arm with the drums. I ended up removing the original spurs and installed a set of Ludwig Atlas spurs on there since I didn't want to drill anything. Working great so far, but this weekend's gigs will be the true test.

I got a 50's reissue P bass and an 8 x 10 Ampeg SVT and a Genzler 800 watt class D bass amp.

I bought it for therapeutic purposes. I tune to A=432 and bask in the pants shaking bliss.

A couple of Cymbal & Gong 18s-- a Holy Grail medium ride with three rivets and a Leon Collection crash. The ride has kind of a Charli Persip with Gil Evans vibe.

C&G is a Portland brand with smiths in Turkey.
