Loose and Colourful

I've been getting into blues/funk lately, and have been experimenting with different sounds. After seeing cjbee's post over at the Sabian forums I decided to try out a bunch of different hat configurations using my crash cymbals for top and bottom hats. What I ended up coming up with was a 18" HHX Evo crash over a cracked 18" A Custom Projection crash. They're fat, sloshy, dirty and dark, perfect for fat back beats. Not the most articulate hats in the world, all you get when you open them up is dark slosh and hiss, but man they are good at what they do.

I also just picked up an 18" AAX X-plosion crash, which is a wonderful cymbal. I'd like to get it's HHX brother soon.

Anyway, specs on the whole lot:

DW Collector's Series in Ebony Satin Oil, gold hardware.
12x9
14x12
16x14
22x18
Pearl 14x5.5 Jimmy DeGrasso Signature Brass snare.

Beautiful set, beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing.

I tried that once with two 16" crashes. Nice and crispy, but not as articulate as I like. Good for powerful rock songs though.

Beautiful kit!

Really clean and classy looking kit you've got there
Now I'm off to go put a couple of 16's together as hats

Have fun with those! I'm missing using my Evo crash as a crash, but damn I'm loving those hats more and more every time I play them. Learning how to control them with my foot has taken a few days, the slightest toe lift can loosen them up.
