Roland Drum Help

Hello, I am attempting to play live drums with a DJ friend of mine and I was hoping someone can advise me on which kit to get for this project. I found a TD4 with MIDI hookup and was thinking that this is good enough... Does anyone know if can use the drums as triggers for sounds and kits with a program running on my laptop? I was wondering if there is any issue with delay if I do this. I basically want to be able to access many sounds in some program and be able to trigger it live on the drums...
Thank you
Matthew

Any drum module with a MIDI out port can be used to trigger drums
on your laptop. Some of them can also use a USB connection and don't require
MIDI. The choice of MIDI adapter for your laptop is the primary way to avoid
delay. Roland makes some drum specific ones made for minimal delay.

The drum programs are called VST's, and much is written about them,
how to tune them configure them etc. The pros like to tweak
them pretty heavily.

The general consensus is that VST's take some effort to get to work well,
and give you the best sound when you are done. I have never used them
myself. If you are have used MIDI and synths before, soft synths aren't that
much different.

See the www.vdrums.com forum, there is a whole section on VST's there.

Have you played on that kit? Playability might be another concern.
