Great news for drumming! (but not for Guitar)

The london Drum Show is sold out. Not only does this make me happy that I'm part of such an event in my own country, but it tells me something very heartening about drumming in general. By comparison, the sister event, London Guitar Show, at the same venue, & by the same organisers, has been cancelled due to lack of patronage.

Go back a few years, & there's no way that a "specialist interest music industry" show on this scale would have filled to capacity, yet here we are, in the depths of a depressed economy, & drummers are travelling from afar to get a piece of drumming action.

Big shows aimed at all musical instruments still attract big crowds, but LDS is purely drumming, & I think offers a barometer on the health of drumming in these times.

Awesome news.

As to your point on the health of drumming these days, I think is spot on. Within recent years, there seems to be an explosion of people eager to learn as well as accessible decent gear to get started with.

We may not always agree with the methods people use to learn or the gear they choose, the fact is that people are getting involved in the instrument in some capacity.

Wow, things have changed! Everybody seems to have gone Ukulele crazy, perhaps they're focusing on the wrong stringed instrument?

People have finally realized that drums and drummers are just way cooler than guitars, and guitar players.Being a drummer is much like being a Free Mason. It's a world wide brotherhood, where a drummer will usually go out of their way to help another drummer,no matter what the circumstances. The ties that bind.:)

My username says it all :) It's wonderful news for drums and drummers, a bit sad for the guitar players.

This will be my first "drums only" exhibition, I've been to several music fair exhibitions, both in the UK (London & Birmingham) and Germany (Frankfurt), but it was about all instruments.

The other "drums only" event I've been is the Zildjian Day in Kentish Town, London in September 1993, it's a totally different mindset, it's like a monster drumclinics with famous drummers for four and half hours, Zildjian cymbals being the only links to the event.

Being a drummer is much like being a Free Mason.

Harvey would agree :)

Thousands of possible configurations with drums and cymbals, old, new, vintage, this badge, that badge, sizes, etc. ... endless ways to show creativity. Not the same with other instruments. My opinion. Good luck to you.
