Restoring with a material wrap-finish

hey everyone!
just wanted to say hi, ive been reading here but havent really posted at all yet..

So i scored a horrible old maxwin kit from the 80's (i think)
the 13 inch tom was beyond saving, so i used it for spare parts (lugs screws etc)

i stripped the wrap off, sanded inside and out, painted the inside matte black and glued a cloth/material (designed for curtains/tablecovers etc ) to it. and covered the joins with some ribbon..

i soaked the hardware in vinegar for 3 days and then gave them a scrub with soapy hot water. they came up well!

i didnt want to spend tooo long on it as it was just an experiment..

It might not be the overruling opinion, but I like it. I mean, I really like it!

Did you cut the fabric to fit the hardware, or just drill a hole for the hardware bolts and screw it on top of the fabric?

Congratulations on making a beaten up kit look like a piece of strange furniture! :)

George.

haha yeah it is a bit unique for sure, but i kinda dig it too :)

i just wrapped the whole shell and then punched holes through the material afterwards. worked fine..

Very cool idea. I like the pattern too. Can you take a pic of it all set up with a couple of cymbals.
