finding the sweet spot on the shell?

How does one find the sweet spot on the shell? Reason I'm asking is that I want to use an external trigger and mount it on the shell instead of on the head.

Experimentation my friend. Experimentation.

To find the sweet spot you gently tap it with your foot.

Here is how I would do it.

Set up the drums as they will normally be played. Take a hard rubber mallet like one used on a xylophone and tap the shell in every spot on the shell until you hear the loudest and clearest tone.

That should be the sweet spot.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that in order to fire a trigger from the shell, you'd have to set the sensitivity so hot that you'll be picking up false hits from all over the place. Yes? No?

Kindof what I was thinking. I talked to PinTech, and they say Terry Bozzio does this exact thing.

HolywoodJim, interesting also.
