Just stumbled on the above from 1977 which eventually became Chinatown on the new album, it's essentially the same backing but they had writers block for nearly 40 years. Here's both versions below.

The 1977 demo is better mixed than the 2015 song and that groove and bass line. He'd have been 22/23 at the time.
Love his snare sound on the early Toto stuff, I believe it was a refurbed Radioking but the amount of gear he used I'm probably wrong!
