6 year old skin-never played on snare

Hey all,

I recently picked up a Black Panter Mapex Premium steel snare. It has the original Remo Ambassador skin on it that came when it was bought new. I can tell it's the original as it has the black panther logo on it. It looks like it's barely been played at all. The guy who sold it to me said he might have played for two hours on it.

My question is :the skin has sat on the drum for about 5 years...is it still good.?..or is the sound going to be flat since there's been tension on the skin for that amount of time.

When I play the snare it sounds pretty good, but I don't know if it would be any better with a new skin.

Comments?

If you think it sounds fine, then there is no need to change it.

I once found some clear ambassadors at school that were never used but were so old that they were tinted yellow. They sounded fine.

Drum heads usually don't go bad by just sitting there. The one exception to this might be if the head was tensioned beyond its limits, in other words, stretched.
