DW Rack Tom Mounting

For those of you who have DW kits and virgin bass drums, and play two rack toms, I've been wondering the following:

Do you mount your two rack toms using those tom/cymbal stands as shown here: http://www.guitarcenter.com/DW-Performance-Series-5-Piece-Shell-Pack-107434169-i2341573.gc

And if so, what are the pros/cons of this kind of tom mounting? I've always plays kits that mount the two rack toms to the bass drum. The DW style of the tom/cymbal stand seems cool, but the stands look incredibly heavy, requiring double braced stands. I've been trying to LIGHTEN my hardware using single braced cymbal stands. But does it all come out in the wash, since you now wouldn't be carrying a tom stand that goes into the bass drum?

Just curious, for those that use this kind of mounting system, what your experience has been with it.

Thanks...

The advantage for me is that I have a rack tom and cymbal on one stand. So if you play two rack toms you have eliminated at least one stand.

I also take the BD tom mount and post and put it in a 9000 series stand.

This allows me to position the two racks over to my left a bit more and position my ride the same way I would playing a 4 piece.

I don't play DW drums but I do use DW tom mounts when I play a two rack set up.

I just clamp the DW ball in socket tom mounts to cymbal stands and it works quite nicely

I do hate the set up and break down aspects of this set up .... thankfully I only use it in one of the bands I play in .... a more R&B/Hip Hop outfit

Thanks for the info. What do you hate about the setup/tear down aspects of this?

a few things

1) the extra hardware , the extra tom and 20" bass drum .... I usually travel with an 18" bop kit where the tom is mounted on the bass drum and just two stands

2) never been a fan of the ball in socket mounts .... they tend to occasionally lose their set in the hardware case and the last thing I want to do while setting up at a gig is mess with ball in socket mounts

I've been gigging and touring for a very long time and I want as little to deal with as possible when setting up and breaking down .... to the point where I don't even use top felts or wingnuts

I use the DW slide track double tome mount on my bass drum most of the time.

+1 on that. I even use this on my Gretsch set. I don't hear any degradation of the sound of the bass drums, but my ears aren't the most discriminating on this forum for sure.

The advantages of this mounting hardware are obvious, can anyone tell me te disadvantages (except for resale, on the Gretsch set anyway)?
